As mathematicians we shall be continuing to build confidence with mental and written calculation strategies using all four operations. We will be learning about statistics, measures and geometry within a practical context. / / As historians we will be finishing off our topic of Ancient Egyptians for the first couple of weeks. We will be finding out about the Gods of Ancient Egypt and the architecture from that time. We will finish this part of the topic with a trip to Horniman’s museum.
As geographers we will be finding out about the country today. We will be looking at the human geography of the place, including settlements, land use and tourism.
As writers our work will be directly linked with our topic. We will be creating fact files about Egypt and writing detailed descriptions of the Gods. We will continue to have focussed lessons on grammar, punctuation and spelling.
As readers we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts in our Guided Reading sessions. We will continue to have a class story time session daily where the children are read to.
As speakers and listeners we will share our ideas about various topics, with our talking buddy, to a small group or the whole class.
As computer userswe shall be honing our research skills using search engines as well as using word processing to present our work.
Within our REwe will be exploring the similarities between the Jewish and Christian religions.We will be learning more about Jewish traditions such as Seder foods, Hanukkah and the Jewish Sabbath. We will finish with the Christian traditions of Christmas and Advent.
As scientists our focus this term will be on electricity. We will be re-capping on how to stay safe when using electrical appliances and how electricity is used in our lives. We will be exploring the different components of electrical circuits and constructing our own to light a bulb and sound a buzzer. We will bring together all that we have learnt to then design and construct a torch, in pairs. Throughout our topic we shall also be practising our scientific skills and developing our skills of practical experimentation. / As French speakerswe will be learning the days of the week and months of the year as well as starting to learn the names of different colours. We will sing songs and play games in French. We will also be looking at how people in France celebrate Christmas. / As artists and designerswe will be learning how to make papyrus and creating pictures of Gods. We will be building structures of pyramids using a variety of tools, techniques and skills. Our topic will end in a flurry of glitter as we approach Christmas!
As musicianswe will be continuing to learn the ocarina. This is a small wind instrument. We will be learning how to play familiar tunes. / As sports peoplewe will be learning how to increase our skills of co-ordination balance and control. We shall also be learning how to play as part of a team during our rugby sessions.
