Peer Tutor Disclosure

January 26, 2019

PEER TUTOR DISCLOSURE

The purpose of the peer tutoring class is for students of all abilities to work together, learn from one another, and get to know one another. Peer tutors should be mature, responsible, and dependable. This class will not be an easy “A”, but if you are committed to success it will be a great experience.

Peer tutors will be graded in three areas: attendance, participation, and quarterly projects.

ATTENDANCE

The only way a student can be successful in peer tutoring class is if they attend consistantly. Students will lose 10 points for every truancy, 3 points for every absence, and 2 points for every tardy.

As per the Weber High Rules a student is truant if they are more than 15 minutes late to class. A student will also be considered truant if they leave a Life Skills student alone for any reason. For safety reasons the Life Skills student must never be left alone. Failure to comply with this rule could result in expulsion from the class. If there is an emergency with a student send someone else to come and get the teacher. Finally, a student will be marked truant if they fail to show up for class and have not checked out of school or been excused from class by a green slip or a parent.

A student is tardy if they come to class after the bell has rung.

A student is absent if they do not attend class. The student has the opportunity to earn back 2 points during E.O. hour for any excused absence.

PARTICIPATION

Peer tutors will be graded bi-quarterly using a participation rubric (attached). Students may receive up to 50 points for participation at midterm and up to 50 points for participation at the end of the quarter—totaling 100 points. Participation will be graded by the adult staff/teacher who observes your tutoring most frequently (i.e. special education teacher, special education staff, or regular education teacher).

PARTICIPATION POINTS WILL BE FORFEITED IF CELL PHONES, CD PLAYERS, MP3 PLAYERS, ETC. ARE OUT DURING CLASS WORK TIME. THE PURPOSE OF THIS CLASS IS TO ASSIST THE STUDENTS!

PROJECTS

Projects must be completed quarterly. Work turned in late will not receive full credit and all projects should be completed to the highest standard of quality. First quarter peer tutors will be required to complete a power point on a disability and a social activity. Second quarter a book report and a social activity are required. If you have already taken the class one semester, you will be completing reading and questions from a workbook. More information will be given at a later date.
