Peer Mentor Job Description – Engineering Residential College 2013-2014
Engineering Peer Mentors help freshmen build connections to the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering through the following:
- Offering a physically visible presence in the community
- Being a friendly person who residents can recognize as a mentor and leader
- Coordinating floor activities each month
- Collaborating with other Peer Mentors and the Community Assistants in the Engineering Residential Collegefor community-wide initiatives
- Gauge student interest and needs to create programming for the community
- Encourage and recruit students to participate in Engineering Residential College events
- Act as a liaison between the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and Engineering Residential College residents
- Sharing knowledge about Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering resources, services, and events with residents
- Actively promoting an environment conducive to academic success
- Encouraging resident participation in community evaluations
- Attend all paraprofessional training sessions
- Attend weekly group meetings and/or individual meetings with supervisor
- Attend and serve as a Peer Mentor at two E2 Camps during August 2013
- Check and respond to email communication from supervisor daily
- Comply with all residence hall and university rules in the ASU Student Code of Conduct, as well as local, state and federal laws
Peer mentors should posses the following characteristics:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Professional attitude
- Motivated to have a positive impact on students
- Role model good behavior both socially and academically
- Initiative and creativity to develop new ideas and programs
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
- Be able to give and receive feedback in an appropriate manner and initiate and/or comply with plans for improvement
Qualifications
- Achieve and maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA at Arizona State University and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering
- Enrolled in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering as a full-time undergraduate student during 2013-2014 school year
- Live on-campus in the Engineering Residential College for the entire academic year appointment
- Be dependable and have a flexible schedule; must be able to work nights and weekends when necessary
Compensation:
Peer Mentor compensation is a single room in the Engineering Residential College. Peer Mentors are required to purchase a meal plan per University Housing policy.
