“Cyber Bullying Workshop for Parents and Caregivers”

PeachfordHospital and the Georgia PTA welcome Dr. Patti Agatston, a Licensed Professional Counselor with the CobbCountySchool District’s Prevention/Intervention Center in Marietta, Georgia. Dr. Agatston is a founding board member for SafePath Children’s AdvocacyCenter in Marietta, Georgia, and she received the Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention’s VIP Award in 2005.
This free conference will address the fact that while media attention has primarily focused on Internet Predators, young people are far more likely to be cyber bullied or receive cyber threats while online.
Questions that will be addressed are:
- What is cyber bullying?
- What methods may students be using to cyber bully?
- How can I monitor my child’s reputation online?
- How can I help my child if they are being cyber bullied?
- If information is posted online, can it be removed?
Dr Agatston is co-author of the book, Cyber Bullying: Bullying in the Digital Age with Robin Kowalski, Ph.D., and Susan Limber, Ph.D that was recently published by Blackwell Publishers. She is also a nationally certified trainer for the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program and a trainer for I-Safe America’s Internet Safety Program. She has been quoted in articles on cyber bullying in Time Magazine and Good Housekeeping Magazine. She was a participant in the CDC’s Expert Panel on Electronic Media and Youth Violence, and presented with co-authors Dr. Robin Kowalski and Dr. Susan Limber on Cyber Bullying at the International Bullying Prevention Conference in November 2007.
