Scope: Ball handling skills in pairs to 7 on 7 mini-touch rugby with scrum, line-outs and basic kicks.

Intents

  1. Series of games progressing from touch rugby that in turn progresses to rugby
  2. Progression of skills based upon

Loc (BM) off-the-ball / Man (EH) on-the-ball
Running, Change direction. Fake. Guarding. Side step action / Ball handling – receiving.

  3. Reciprocal. Non participants coach watch me then do for another group.

Class Size: 30 – roughly 1 yellow pylon to a player. One ball per 2 player.

Equipment: 20 balls, 8 x 4 pinnies. 16 yellow pylons and 15 red pylons for 2 games.

Pairs – Partner coach and fetch ball. Then kick to partner to catch

Lofted

Grip – Angled with 2 hands

Step – Longer step more swing

Swing – Bend knee, extend leg as drop ball.

Lases – Hit with laces on side of ball

Through – Swing foot in line with kick. Follow kick.

Grubber

Grip – Angled drop

Wind-up – Bend knee

Force – Down on ball with knee over the ball

Hit into ground immediately in front of you.
