Dashboard

Lynne Saunders showed the group the maternity dashboard and explained some of the indicators and clarified questions asked by the group. The group to decide how it would like to see the dashboard in the future and how frequently.

WEBSITE

Steph Holland presented the MSLC’s website she has developed which is available via the Intranet with links to a number of areas of additional information. It includes a section for women to provide feedback. It is planned that this will replace the current cards when the supply has run out. The website has been approved by Patricia Davis. Posters and flyers advertising this have been developed and were circulated.

FUNDRAISING

The Pregnancy and Parenting Fayre is due to be held on Friday 7th August 2015 from 11-2.There will be 20 stalls and fundraising is for Labour Suite; the MSLC will have a stall. The MSLC will also have a stall at the “It’s a Knock Out” competition on 26 July 2015. Support is needed for this. Possibly also having a stall at the Athenaeum in Bury St Edmunds on a “Walk through Life” event in September.

FEEDBACK

February/March 2015 and April/May 2015 most recent had 100 responses. Most positive. One comment on the waiting area outside MLBU being unwelcome. Lynne Saunders informed the meeting that this could not be larger due to the need for access. The new online feedback option will include an option to request a debrief.
Flyers advertising the online survey have been distributed and these can start to be used immediately (even if cards have not run out).

BREASTFEEDING

·  FAB representative gave an overview on the services offered at WSH and in the community. Explained how it covers F11, MLBU, LS and F1 offering 7 day a week 365 day service where peer supporters are onsite for approximately 5 hours per day. Outlined the peer supporters, the recruitment and training. Also talked about other services offered i.e. volunteers.
·  Breastfeeding at WSH. Cheryl McDonnell was not at the meeting but had provided the latest breastfeeding initiative rates; June 79% down slightly on the previous month where a high of 81% was achieved.
·  The meeting discussed International Breastfeeding Week and what activities have been planned.
·  FAB had undertaken a number of events for National Breastfeeding Week but no plans for International Breastfeeding Week.
·  For MSLC this coincides with the Pregnancy and Parenting Fare.

MATERNITY SERVICES UPDATE

Justyna Skonieczny updated the group on the plans for partners to remain overnight for women with IOL if desired.
Steph Holland informed the committee that Tom Delaney would like to do a birth partner questionnaire on behalf of Suffolk Healthwatch. This is delayed at present, until the new procedures are in place.
Karen Ranson, NNU Manager attended the meeting for the first time, she took the opportunity to tell the meeting about the “Muslin square”. Also described how when mothers express early this may be used for mouth if baby is not feeding.
Louisa White updated the meeting on “Monday Mums” a six week course for women in pregnancy with raised BMI and how they are hoping to extend this throughout pregnancy and include as a group appointment.
Vicky Barbour-Andrews gave the group an outline of the Relax, Breath and Birth classes she provides. She is awaiting Patricia’s approval to run those on site and offer a number of free places on a bursary type option.

AGM

The next AGM is planned for 25 November 2015, the room is booked and Steph Holland asked for suggestions on speakers. These suggestions include Sarah Oakley, a rep from CCG, FAB, a showing of the microbirth video, a talk on hypnobirthing and a talk from a TAMBA rep were suggested.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

1.  The meeting discussed a GP joining the group. Steph Holland has contacted the CCG with no reply.
2.  Members also raised postnatal support and birth after thoughts. Lynne Saunders informed the meeting that this was something Patricia was already considering.
3.  One member described feedback she had received on the different service women had received depending on which community team they were in. Louisa White explained the geographical differences and emphasised that tours of the unit no longer take place when active birth classes are on site.
4.  Another member described “The Positive Birth” event which meets monthly in Bury St Edmunds on the first Thursday of the month at Oakes Barns.
5.  More pictures of midwives, Labour Suite and Hannah’s room were required for the website/posters.

Wednesday 30 September 2015 at 1330-1530 hours in the Parent Education Room, Antenatal/Gynae Clinic, West Suffolk Hospital.
NB: This meeting is during the day and the plan is to alternate day/evening meetings.
