PC PSA MINUTESDate: January 22, 2015

REGULAR CAMPUS MEETING

Members in attendance: Rene’ Kuehne, Lynn Mary, Georgina Zielinski, Allen Jackson, Ted Bland, Brenda Enriquez, Diana Martinez, Carolyn Worthington, Vrushhi Bhatt, Judith Clark and Marc Surrarrer.

1. WELCOME: The meeting was called to order at 11:30 a.m. by Co-President, Judith Clark. Meeting was held in the Student Union, Room SU117.

Took a few minutes to introduce ourselves and share a goal/plan for our professional and/or personal life for 2015.

2. REPORTS:

Carolyn Worthington reported on the SUMMER Conference is scheduled for June 11, 2015 at MCC with the theme “Be Extraordinary’ chosen. Save the Date notices are planned to be sent by February 2, 2015. It has been suggested the registration be handled by a 3rd party vendor. There were questions and concerns about the reason for and the cost to be incurred.

Ted Blandcontinues to encourage PS employees to apply for a Professional Staff Internship. First step is to seek out a Mentor who would be willing to guide through the PSI. Applications are due in March.

{No other verbal reports due to time constraints, absences of Representatives and the need for our Co-Presidents to share information from the District PSA meeting.

The new website is up

Google account developed to share concerns

Arizona State Retirement System – Investment returns reported up which will reduce our contributions

Discussion regarding a suggest appointment of a Sargent-at-Arms…many in our meeting feel there is no need to create a new position as there is already a stop-gap in place for this purpose

Still concerns about the Vice Chancellor’s directive as to ‘no PSA movement’ in the wake of the difficult time we have been going…Marc is going to inquire as to current status of this directive.

PC PSA Monthly Social Gathering: Hamburger Works, January 30, 2015, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (longer by choice), all are responsible for own food and beverages. ALL are encouraged to join as it is a great chance to meet other peers and socialize professionally and personally.

  1. Budget Review – open meetings, meets second and fourth Wednesdays

Budget Allocation Model (BAM) will be reviewed, additional monthly meeting may be added (first Wednesdays), state has proposed reducing funding support for entire District by more than $4 million down to $3.3 million and STEM funding down to less than $1 million at $700,000. Possible outcomes include District makes up loss from its budget or requires individual colleges to make up loss from their respective budgets.

  2. Phoenix College Leadership Council (PCLC) – meets first and third Tuesdays

AACE Empowering Community Colleges to Build the Nation’s Future: An Implementation Guide – identifies strategies colleges can use to implement seven recommendations for improving completion rates. PCLC members summarized the recommendations and shared what PC and the District are doing to implement recommendations. Recommendation #4 addressed Refocus the Community College Mission and Redefine Institutional Roles, Recommendation #5 addressed Invest in Collaborative Support Structures.

Enrollment Management Plan – retention is the selected focus. FTSE and headcount have decreased 1% - Friday, 1/23 is highpoint in terms of data collection.

Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Committee – Criterion drafts were reviewed and .

Maricopa Priorities –District Steering Team along with CEC participated in a retreat 1/7 to discuss submitted recommendations which were divided into four categories: those that will move forward as is, those that require modification to move forward, those that require additional information, those that require additional massaging to move forward. Retreat follow up is 1/21. At PC, champion recommendations which required a department plan to be submitted are due Friday, 1/23.

PC’s purchase of strategic planning online (SPOL) software received priority approval from District IT based on upcoming accreditation.
