ABOUT YOUR CHECK STUB:

Your check stub provides considerable information about your pay and benefits.

Displayed across the top of the stub is the Agency Number, Distribution Number (a number assigned by the agency to designate your work location), Employee Name, Employee Social Security Number, Classification Number (assigned by Employee Services), Period Ending Date (month for which you are being paid), Check Date, and MICR Number (check number if a check is issued instead of Direct Deposit). Wage and withholding information is presented in four sections.

  1. EARNINGS –middle left side:
  1. Total Reg (regular earnings)
  2. Premium pay (overtime, holiday pay, etc. if any)
  3. Ins Return (insurance return, if any)
  4. GROSS PAY (total earnings for the pay period)
  5. Fed Tax (Federal Income Tax withheld)
  6. State Tax (State Income Tax withheld)
  7. OASDI (Old Age Survivors Disability Insurance – Social Security Tax withheld)
  8. Medicare (Medicare Tax withheld)
  9. WCD (Workers Comp Tax – employee match)
  10. Empl Dedns (total employee deductions from middle right side)
  11. Net Pay Adj (adjustment from prior pay period, if any)
  12. Net Deposit (if direct deposit)
  13. Net Check (zero if direct deposit)
  14. Exmptns (current W-4 status J 04 = Married with 4 exemptions)
  1. DEDUCTIONS – middle right side. Displays Employee and Employer contribution amounts:

  1. YEAR TO DATE INFORMATION (agency specific):
  1. Gross Pay (total pay for the current year)
  2. Tax Defer Income (payments deducted before taxes are calculated such as pre-tax insurance premiums or deferred comp)
  3. Other Taxable (any other taxable income such as the value of Domestic Partner insurance premiums)
  4. Taxable Income (total taxable income for the year)
  5. Fed Tax Withheld (total Federal taxes withheld for the year)
  6. State Tax Withheld (total State taxes withheld for the year)
  7. Soc. Sec. Withheld (top amount is OASDI, bottom amount is Medicare)
  1. RETIRE STATE PICKUP (agency specific):
  1. Number (your PERS retirement account number)
  2. Current (the employer paid 6% contribution for this pay period)
  3. YTD (the total employer paid 6% contribution for the year) PLEASE NOTE: this is not a reflection of your PERS account balance as PERS will apply interest to your account.
