Thefollowingdutiesarecommontothejobdescriptionsofallteachersintheschool regardlessofanyadditionalspecificdutieslistedbelowandformthebasisofthe SchoolTeachers'Payand ConditionsDocument.

Teaching

  • Safeguard all students in your care, including proactive leadership of individual risk assessment, SOS, Early Help and any family support interventions
  • Planandpreparecoursesandlessonsinaccordancewiththedefinedcurriculumofthe school
  • Teach,accordingtotheireducationalneeds,thestudentsassignedtoyou,includingthe settingandmarkingofworktobecarriedoutbystudentsatschoolorelsewhere
  • Assess,recordandreportonthedevelopment,progressandattainmentof students
  • Promotethegeneralprogress andwell-beingofindividualstudentsandanyclassorgroupof studentsassignedtoyou
  • Provideguidanceandadvicetostudentsoneducationalandsocialmattersandontheir furthereducationandfuturecareers,includinginformation aboutsourcesofmoreexpert adviceonspecificquestions.CommunicateandconsultwiththeparentsorguardiansofstudentsinconsultationwiththerelevantKey Stage Leader
  • Communicateandco-operatewithpersonsorbodiesoutsidetheschoolandparticipatein meetingsarrangedforsuchpurposesinconsultationwiththeKey Stage Leader

AssessmentsandReports

Tutoring

Asapastoraltutorassignedtocoverorworkwithatutorgroup,youwill berequiredinadditionto thedutiesdescribedaboveto:

  • Takearegisterattheassignedtimes.Theformregisterisalegaldocument. Informationinit mustbekeptup-to-date.Allstudentabsencesmustbeaccountedforbyaparentalletterand anynotsocoveredmustbereportedtotheHead of Department for additional support.
  • Attendallassemblies attendedbythetutorgrouptowhichyouhavebeenassigned andlead onclassassemblies,ifdirectedtodoso bythesenior staff
  • Carryoutadailycheckofthestandardsofdressofthestudentsassignedtoyou,adaily checkof diariesandmonitorstandardsofbehaviour.

SupervisoryDuties

  • Tocarryoutashareofsupervisorydutiesbefore,duringandaftertheschoolsessionsin accordancewith publishedrotas.Inorder toensurethe safe arrival anddepartureofstudents anddealwithparentalenquiriesyouarerequired tobeonthepremises atleasttenminutes beforethestartofthe morning session andfortenminutesaftertheendoftheafternoon session. Thistimeisaccountedforyourprescribedworkingtime.Permission tobeabsentat thesetimesmustbeobtainedfrom theHead of Department

Appraisal

  • Participateinarrangementsforyourappraisalandthatof other staff.
  • Line manage HLTA and help direct the work of TAs
  • Mentor new student teachers, NQTs and placement students, as required

TrainingandDevelopment

  • Reviewregularlyyourmethodsofteachingandprogrammesofwork and participateinarrangementsforyourfurthertraininganddevelopmentasateacher.

EducationalMethods

  • Adviseandco-operatewiththeHeadteacher,Heads of Departments, Key Stage Leaders, Head of Care and Safeguarding and Head of Autism Research and Development andotherteachersinthepreparationanddevelopment ofcoursesof study,teachingmaterials,and teachingprogrammes, as well asmethodsofteachingandassessmentand pastoralarrangements.

Discipline,Healthand Safety

  • Youarerequiredtomaintaingoodorderanddisciplineamongthestudentsandsafeguard theirhealthand safetybothwhentheyareauthorisedtobeonthe schoolpremisesandwhen theyareengagedinauthorised schoolactivitieselsewhere.
  • Inparticularyouareresponsible forthehealthandsafety ofstudentsinaclassassigned toyoueitheronthetimetableoras emergency cover.
  • Studentsmustnotbeleftunattendedwithoutadequate supervision.

StaffMeetings

  • YouwillberequiredtoattendmeetingsattheschoolwhichrelatetotheSchool Development Plan, the curriculum,orthe administration ororganisationoftheschoolincludingpastoralarrangements, inaccordance with yourprescribedworkingtime.
  • You will be required to join in the PPA and Moderation meetings on a weekly and half-termly basis respectively

PublicExaminations

  • You may be required to participate in arrangements for preparing students for public examinationsandinassessingstudents forthepurposeofsuchexaminations:recordingandreporting suchassessmentsandtoparticipateinthearrangementsforstudents’ presentationforandsupervisionduringtheexaminations.

EmergencyCover

  • Youwillberequiredtosuperviseandsofaraspracticableteachanystudentsassignedto youduetotheirteacher notbeingavailable.Therequirementtoprovideemergencycover for unavailable colleagueswillbeconsistentwiththecurrentTeachers’ PayandConditions Document

WorkingTime

  • Youmustbeavailableforworkfor195daysin anyschoolyear,ofwhichfor190daysyouwill berequired toteachstudentsinaddition tocarryingoutotherduties.Thesedutieswillbe carriedoutatsuchtimesandplacesastheHeadteacherwillspecifyfor1265hoursinany oneyear.ThisrequirementisconsistentwiththeTeachers’PayandConditionsDocument
  • Inadditiontotherequirementssetoutintheaboveparagraph,youwillberequiredtowork suchadditional hoursasmay beneededtoenableyoutodischargeeffectively your professionalduties,includingin particular,themarkingofstudents’work,the writingofreports onstudentsandthepreparationoflessons,teaching materialandteachingprogrammes.The amountoftime requiredforthispurposebeyondthe1265hoursreferredtoaboveisamatter foryourprofessional judgmentandwilldependupontheworkneededforyoutodischarge yourdutiesasa teacher.

Deployment:

  • You are contracted to work for Abbot’s Lea School as part of all of its operations
  • You may be asked to work at a location other than L25 6EE
  • You are deployable to work with student within the school or in another school supported by Abbot’s Lea School as part of its extended outreach work.
