The “historical relationship” of Ontario Correctional Officer pay rate compared to court services was not only greater, but was more closely aligned with the pay rate of the Police Service (greater at one point in time). In accordance with the Royal Commission, Judge Shapiro recommended that the correctional officer’s wage should be aligned within $1000.00 annually of a first class constable on the Ontario Provincial Police. Corrected to “2014 dollars” that would translate to an alignment amount of $3505.65 to the OPP wages. (inflationcalculator “bankofcanada.ca 1978-2014”). The OPP also have a provision as being the “highest paid”.
