What is the role of the Patient
Participation Group?
At its simplest, patient participation refers to patients such as you who are taking an active interest in healthcare.
It gives you, (those who are within the area of the practice) whether patients, family or carers, an opportunity to input into how the Practice’s services are planned, developed and evaluated and this is done by developing a good working relationship with the Practice staff and GPs.
Working with the Practice, we have developed notice boards in both surgeries and an email address - - in an effort to provide you, the patient, with information about health issues and details of where you can find help and support.
Our members get involved in West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group and the wider health and social care environment and consultation processes.
We provide an annual programme on a range of topics related to health care.
We carry out surveys and then feedback to the surgery changes that you feel are needed to improve the services.

Dr Phil Hammond, GP turned hospital doctor, journalist and broadcaster supporting Patient Participation Awareness had this to say . . .
“Patients and carers are the smoke alarms for the frontline of the NHS. They are often first to spot poor care and also to have great ideas about how to make care better. They need to be involved in decisions not just about their care, but in designing better care for others. Patient Participation Groups are a crucial way of harnessing the voice of the patient in primary care, and have much to contribute in driving up quality.”
