Pathway Group Project (6th Grade)

In teams, work together to achieve the goal based on the team’s one chosen Pathway area. All teams have a week to prepare their project and will present the information on the last day. One pathway from each program of study area is represented in this project.

Pathway: Agribusiness Management

Goal: To design a brochure to promote Georgia produce and other Georgia products.

Directions: Market agricultural products and services in Georgia to help promote items in Georgia. By using the website kids page collect facts about important information (pounds produced per year, products from Georgia, etc). In the brochure include a graph or chart representing facts related to agriculture. Use the brochure to encourage the class to buy Georgia products and explain the benefits of people buying them.

Pathways: Engineering, Drawing and Design and Interior Design

Goal: To re-design a room for a reality TV show

Directions: Choose a room in a house that needs a makeover. Include the dimensions of the room, items needed to purchase for the room, and calculate expenses (list of cost of items to purchase for the newly designed room). Be creative and think of color, design, and use for the person that will be living in the room. Present the information visually to the class through technical drawings.

Pathway: Visual Arts and Foreign Language

Goal: To design a CD cover for a music group from another country (non-English speaking)

Directions: Decide on a country and type of music for a new band. Explain what the people in the music group wear and what they look like. The CD cover should include the music group’s name and visually represent the group. Inside the CD cover write an overview using at least 50 words, but less than 100 words explaining what country was chosen, the type of music would be on the CD, and explain how the group chose the music. Use at least one picture on the front cover and at least one picture on the back cover of the CD. Be sure to list original songs on the back cover of the CD.

Pathway: Interactive Media

Goal: To design a school appropriate video game

Directions: Design a video game case that represents a game that is fun for teenagers. Explain why it would be fun for a teenager, how do you play the game, and how do you win the game? Include directions on how to play the game and mention the type of controller and system needed. Describe the graphics and animation of the game and mention how to keep score.

Pathways: Culinary Arts and Education

Goal: To teach the class how to prepare a meal

Directions: Decide on a menu for a meal. What food will you prepare? What supplies do you need? How will you measure the ingredients? Create a lesson plan for the presentation and list step-by-step instructions. After the team demonstration, write a 50 word reflection on how the meal was prepared and explain at least one strength and one weakness of the presentation.

Pathway: Manufacturing Pathway

Goal: To design a robot to assist students in daily life

Directions: Design a robot and represent it visually. Describe what materials were used in creating the robot, what activities the robot can do, how the robot is safe and helpful for students. Explain how the robot and the student communicate, how the robot moves, and the tasks it can complete. The presentation should include the height, weight, and strength of the robot.

Pathway: Nutrition and Food Science

Goal: To design a brochure to increase awareness of a teen health issue

Directions: Choose an important health issue regarding teens. Describe what teens can do to prevent the health issue. Do research on the topic an include graphs and numbers that are important to the issue. Represent the information visually to the class.

Pathway: Law and Justice

Goal: To propose creating a new law focused on teens

Directions: Create a proposal of a new law that you think teens should follow. Provide reasons why the team chose this issue. Explain how you would enforce the law. What would be the consequences if a teen does not follow the law. What would be the benefit if the law was created? Use research and facts to reinforce your reason.

Pathway: Nursing

Goal: To persuade students to be a nurse whether they are male or female

Directions: Nursing is growing and there will be more than 3.6 healthcare jobs needed by 2014. As a team, come up with a commercial/skit to convince the class that nurses are needed. Explain how to become a nurse, the skills needed, and that it is not specific to only men or only women. Research the difference between an LPN and an RN and explain in the presentation how people can be trained to be a nurse. Make the presentation caring and people focused.

Pathway: Marketing, communications and promotions

Goal: To create a cereal targeted to teens

Directions: Design a cereal box that motivates teens to want to purchase it and eat it. Use a slogan or saying on the front of the box to catch the teens’ attention. List ingredients on the side of the box. Include a game or activity on the back of the box for teens. Present a 60 second commercial to motivate the class to want to buy a box of your cereal. What would you say to get them to want to buy your cereal? Is it because of the taste, the prize inside, or the fun name?
