Pat Simmons & Sally Eads Volunteer2018 Scholarship

Historic Fincastle, Inc. (HFI) created the Pat Simmons and Sally Eads Volunteer Scholarship as a way honor the lives of these two women and their long history of volunteerism to the Town of Fincastle and beyond. Pat Simmons was a long-time educator in Botetourt County Public Schools and at Virginia Western Community College. Sally Eads was a history professor at Virginia Western CommunityCollege and served on the Botetourt County School Board. Both ladies volunteered freely hundreds of hours for HFI as tour guides, historians, genealogy assistants, and board members. The scholarship was created in 2016 to celebrate volunteerism and is funded by the proceeds received from the various fundraising activities, memberships, and corporate donations.

Scholarship Application Requirements:

  • Current senior at Lord Botetourt or James River High School,
  • Senior must be planning to attend Virginia Western Community College, Hollins University, Radford University, University of Virginia, Agnes Scott College, or another Virginia four or two year college or university.
  • Completed HFI Application Form with photo attached
  • Two letters of reference; One letter must be from an adult involved with the student’s volunteer activities and able to write about that involvement.
  • Volunteer list as outlined in application
  • An essay of not more than 300 words, double space, 12 pt. font.

The HFI Scholarship Program is facilitated and managed by Historic Fincastle, Inc. Scholarship Committee and HFI Board of Directors.
