Past Lt. Governors Association (PLGA)

Georgia District Convention

Lodge & Spa at Callaway Gardens

Pine Mountain, Georgia

August 12, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 7:20 a.m. by PLGA Chairman Gene Goldsmith.

Elaine Stone delivered words of inspiration and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Governor Richard thanked us “for all you’re doing.”

The minutes of the March 12, 2016 meeting at the University of West Georgia at Carrollton had been previously e-mailed to everyone. A motion was made and duly second to approve the minutes as written, motion passed unanimously.

Debbie Brilling gave the treasurer’s report. We began with $3,243and the balance today was $2,793. Debbie reported that we’d given out three grants since last March. She had received reports from Coweta County, Macon, Metro Atlanta and Bainbridge. Fifty-five people had paid dues this year, about average. A motion was made and duly seconded to accept the Treasurer’s Report, the motion passed unanimously.

Debbie announced that we need funds – dues – to be able to give out more grants. She encouraged us to pay for more than one year. There ensued discussion about life membership. David Simmons made a motion that we create a Lifetime Member for a one time donation of $200. The motion was duly seconded and passed unanimously.

Gene reported on the nominations for 2016 – 2017 as follows:

Barry Gardner, Chairman

Andy Pippin, Chairman Elect/Secretary

DebbieBrilling, Treasurer

Gene Goldsmith, Past Chairman

The vote was unanimous.

Gene reported that eleven members of the 2015-2016 Lt. Governors attended today.

Wes Dorsey reported on the deliberations of the HERO committee. The committee consulted with Chuck Hood, who had initiated the award during his governorship. Funds would be needed to pay for supplies to make the awards including need Kiwanis logo change. The committee needs input from PLGA for ideas. The committee would like HERO award attached to the Kiwanian-of-the-Year award by clubs. Their idea was that clubs would give an award and divisions would elect from each club awardee; then the District would select District HERO award. Debbie Brilling suggested funding should come from District not PLGA. Additional discussion ensued about the award. The general consensus of the attendees was it should be a District award. Gene asked “what should we do?” Shannon Sneed made a motion to let the committee keep going. The motion was duly seconded and passed unanimously.

Barry Gardner made a motion that dues be increased to $15 per year for 2017 – 18, but if you sign up now it would still be $10. The motion was duly seconded and passed unanimously.

David Simmons wanted to change life membership dues if our dues go up. No action was taken.

Dottie thanked Gene for a good year and continuing the tradition of service.

John Stone reminded us that Dewey Smith will be on the ballot for international president at the KI Convention in Paris, France next year. He encouraged everyone to attend the convention.

Debbie announced that we collected dues from the Governors who were meeting across the hall at the Past Governors breakfast.

Gene thanked everyone for their cooperation of the board.

There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Gene adjourned the meeting at 7:58 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Bill Krenson, Secretary
