What Is Textiles?

A textile is a flexible material made by using thread or yarn. In the early days yarn was made by spinning natural raw materials such as wool, silk, cotton or flax on a spinning wheel to produce long strands known as yarn.

Today, as well as natural fibers, we also use man made fibres to make the yarn. These fibers are often blended with natural fibres to produce a yarn that has the good properties of both types of yarn and therefore produce a fabric that is great to wear and easy to care for.

Textiles are made by weaving, knitting, knotting, crocheting, rubbing or pressing fibers and yarn together to form fabric.

Fabrics are made in various strengths ranging from the finest gossamer to the sturdiest canvas.
