Lady Nugent 07·05·1850

The ship Lady Nugent brought 77 immigrants in 1850. One of the passengers came to erect a steam powered saw mill, flour mill and threshing machine, which were on the ship along with the men to run them. Another man, Mr Tollemache, was the owner of 37 allotments of land in Nelson and had other properties in other settlements. As with many other arrivals, the Lady Nugent added to the McRae family who had arrived on the Mary Anne. William and Sarah were from Ireland and joined his brother George in farming in the Wakefield area. They went on to own large areas of land in North Canterbury. Also on board, Mr and Mrs Robert Godley went on to help settle the new province and make their home in Canterbury .
