YOUTH MINISTER/DIRECTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE:
The Youth Minister/Director shall seek to develop students who have a healthy view of Jesus Christ and His church. The Youth Minister/Director shall offer students the opportunity to initiate, and/or, deepen their personal relationship with Christ. The mission of the Youth Ministry is to develop and nurture the Christian faith, values, and spirituality of students in the age of junior high and senior high (grades 6th - 12th), as well as their families.
ACCOUNTIBILITY
The Youth Minister/Director shall report directly to the Discipleship Core Team Leader and be accountable to this person and the Pastor of Paseo Baptist Church.
Profile
The Youth Minister/Director must be:
• An energetic, committed Christian
• Educated and experienced in theology and counseling
• A Christian role model for youth to help develop leadership qualities and
personal development
• Able to recruit, train, encourage, support and coach volunteer teams of lay
volunteers
• A good administrator with creative abilities to plan and facilitate programs
• Able to build personal relationships with the youth of the church as well as
provide discipline and structure
• A good communicator
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES Cont
1. Give direction to and oversee the youth ministry
- Identify the needs and interests of teens within the church and community
- Plan and develop programs for the youth ministry
- Evaluate existing programs to determine effectiveness
- Identify and provide ministry opportunities for teens
2. Meet monthly with youth leadership team (YLT) to pray and to discuss up-coming events, challenges, solutions and praise
3. Recruit youth workers as needed. Provide training for youth workers as needed. Plan one major training/inspirational workshop a year.
4. Provide counseling and spiritual direction to teens on an individual basis
5. Participate in outreach ministry to teens who have visited the church through visits, letters, phone calls, etc.
6. Lead midweek (Wednesday) and Sunday evening Bible study for teens
7. Plan at least one yearly youth retreat for the purpose of spiritual edification
8. Visit teens who are hospitalized
9. Visit teens in their schools
10. Participate in training opportunities yearly, or as needed
11. Participate in the After-School programs in the various school districts
12. Compile a youth directory: Distribute copies to teens and youth workers
13. Work with Minister of Music to help establish a viable Youth Choir
14. Advise with Discipleship Core Team Leader on the selection of curriculum materials
ADMINISTRATIVE;
1. Develop a Youth Leadership Team (YLT) to assist in the planning and implementation of the Ministry. The YLT shall be composed of representation from youth, parents, and the congregation.
2. Establish a visitation schedule for attending the schools of children in Youth
Ministry
3. Coordinate the planning of special projects and events: (camps, retreats, mission
trips, fellowship, etc)
4. Develop the Youth Ministry budget and track expenditures throughout the year
5. Communicate and make monthly reports to the Discipleship Department on the progress and needs of the Youth Ministry
