ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE INSTRUCTOR, #629

FIRST LEVEL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1.  Good morning/afternoon. Tell us about your background and qualifications and your decision to become a full time instructor at Pasadena City College.

2.  Tell us a little about your teaching style and how you would go about measuring the student learning outcomes you have established for your courses? Specifically, how would you measure the performances of your students?

3.  As a law enforcement officer you are familiar with the value of cultural diversity within a police organization. How would you go about teaching these values to your students?

4.  As may happen from time to time, you encounter a completely disruptive student in one of your classes. How would you go about dealing with this student?

5.  Recruitment for qualified law enforcement officers in 2016 has become more difficult. Many applicants lack good writing and oral communication skills. How would you address this issue with your students?

6.  Integrity is a major issue in law enforcement and also in the college class room. You become aware that one of your students is cheating on an examination. How would you deal with this student?

7.  A student comes to you and says “I really want to be a police officer, but I have never gotten good grades in high school and I am not doing well in your class”. What would your approach be in dealing with this particular student and his or her problem?

8.  Another issue that has arisen over the years is the lack of significant numbers of women in law enforcement. How would you approach this issue with your students, being aware that many of our classes here at Pasadena City College in Administration of Justice contain 40 to 50% female students?

9.  Contemporaneous topics in the news often come up in class discussion. A student asks you about the current “Black Lives Matter” groups. The student wants to know if such demonstrations are legal and what is the law enforcement position on dealing with these events? How would you enlighten this student?

10.  Teaching demonstration: To give us an indication of your teaching style, please prepare a 9-10 minute classroom presentation on the Fifth Amendment. You will present the lecture to us in the same way that you would convey it to your students.

11.  Are there any questions that you have for this panel? Is there anything that you would like to add to our discussion?
