Project Title:Sewing/Quilting/Knitting Studio at D3 Community Center

Equipment - 4 Babylock Elizabeth Sewing Machines, 1 Juki TL2200 QVP Long

Arm Free Motion Quilting Machine, Installation, On-site Training, 3 yrs. of maintenance for all equipment -$15,501.91 (see attached)

Site Modification (Partitions, Electrical, Locks, Power Strips, Storage Cabinets, Studio Furniture (sewing tables & chairs), Etc. - $3,000. Depending on the site and whether space shared or dedicated we may be able to use existing or accept donations.

Quilting fabric, supplies, notions - Mostly donated but an additional $200 budgeted for additional items needed

A well-equipped, cross-generational quilting/sewing/knitting center to make items to donate to D3 shelters, hospitals, police/fire dept. and other organizations in need. All materials and equipment provided free of charge.

This project establishes a quilting/sewing/knitting studio at a D3 Community Center to benefits members of the community (ages 15+) who

• enjoy or want to learn sewing/quilting/knitting

• want a creative outlet or learn a new skill for brain training

• enjoy the camaraderie of working on a joint project with members of all ages and skills

• want to give back to the community by making & donating small quilts, blankets, wall hangings and other crafted items to shelters, hospitals, senior centers, police/fire officers who need to take children into custody, in D3. For teens this will qualify as community service.

• Who want to volunteer for a fund raiser to provide equipment maintenance, materials & supplies after the 3rd year and additional training if desired? For teens this will qualify as community service.

It will be equipped with 4 Baby lock Elizabeth Sewing Machines, 1 Juki TL2200

QVP Long Arm Free Motion Quilting Machine, 2 cutting stations and an inventory of fabric and yarn to use for projects to be donated. A Long Arm Quilting Machine is sexy. It allows free motion quilting which can be very creative and much faster than traditional machine quilting or quilting by hand. It operates more like woodworking tools so it will appeal to all ages and genders.

The Community Center will provide a minimum of 150 sq. ft. of permanent dedicated storage space for equipment and materials and provide adjacent classroom space for sessions on an agreed upon schedule.
