Part-time Volunteer/Curriculum Facilitator

Location: Adult Education

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Recruits and screens individuals interested in volunteering.
  2. Conducts volunteer orientation and training (minimally twelve hours).
  3. Places, matches, monitors and supports volunteer-tutors.
  4. Maintains accurate and complete records of the volunteer component for the required MDESE SMARTT Data Accountability System.
  5. Conducts Common Planning meetings and assists program staff to align curriculum with College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
  6. Works with staff to select and develop appropriate materials for class use.
  7. Establishes and maintains curriculum resource center.
  8. Works closely with SABES to provide curriculum materials to staff.
  9. Arranges guest speakers and field trips for individual classes.
  10. Assists staff to develop a program of study that meets and accommodates student assessment outcomes, individual needs, interests, abilities and goals (educational & career)
  11. Supports staff in developing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and to plan instruction effectively.
  12. Encourages staff to utilize a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to increase student learning and confidence.
  13. Works closely with administrators, educational & career advisors, volunteer-tutors and colleagues to maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages students to raise issues and take risks.
  14. Maintains records and accurately completes reports required.
  15. Attends required meetings and participates in staff/program development activities and is receptive to changing program requirements.
  16. Maintains collegial relationships with all staff members.
  17. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Program Facilitator.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Massachusetts Teacher Certification (ABE Licensure preferred)
  3. Experience teaching ESOL, ABE or GED content areas.
  4. Ability to adapt teaching style and techniques to the needs of adult learners.
  5. Sensitive to the needs of multi-cultural, diverse adult learners.
  6. Excellent interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills.
  7. Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education and experience developing/integrating curriculum
  8. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the integration of technology in the ABE/ESOL classroom.
  9. Certified to administer required ABE and ESOL assessments (willing to certify)
  10. Experience as a teacher trainer.
  11. Demonstrated writing and verbal skills

Terms of Employment:

This is a part time non-union position
