Part Time Bookkeeper – Administrative Assistant

The Muir Heritage Land Trust has been working to acquire lands and land preservation agreements since 1988. With contributing members from all over the Bay Area, the Trust focuses on land preservation and environmental awareness within the regional community of ContraCostaCounty.The Muir Heritage Land Trust values flexibility, innovation and collaboration in our approach to land conservation.

We are located in the charming town of Martinez.We operate with a very small, creative staff that enjoys a close working relationship with our Board of Directors.

The Land Trust is looking for a Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant 3 days per week. The Bookkeeper / Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director, andhelps ensure the smooth functioning of the Land Trust by providing sole on-site support in the areas of bookkeeping and finance, membership database management and reporting, human resources, office management and IT administration.

Responsibilities

  • Enters and maintains all accounts payables and accounts receivables.
  • Working with the outside Financial Consultantprepares monthly financial statements and quarterly financial reports.
  • Reconciles monthly bank statements and prepares monthly journal entries.
  • Assists the Executive Director in preparing and monitoring budgets for all program and administrative functions.
  • Working with the outside Financial Consultantprepares for the annual financial audit.
  • Manages the relationship with vendors, banks and insurance and retirement plans.
  • Prepares financial-related federal and state government required reports.
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the Treasurer and Finance Committee of the Board.
  • Administers all employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
  • Maintains and updates Standard Operating Procedures Manual and Personnel Manual.
  • Assists with the implementation of fundraising strategies including direct mail.
  • Oversees the management of the membership database.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience, or accounting degree with one year of experience.
  • Good understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and practices.
  • Must be able to work independently, be highly organized and be self-motivated.
  • Strong analytical skills including an ability to understand and analyze detailed financial data.
  • Ability to coordinate and present information in an organized and accurate fashion.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks Proand Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with database management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Start Date: This position would be available beginning July 16th.

Schedule: The Land Trust is looking for a Bookkeeper for 3 days per week.
