Aquapolitea was a small village located near a river. In 850 BCE the river flooded, destroying many shops and homes. The shops had built tools out of stone, wood, and simple metals like iron. Many villagers who owned the shops lost their job and income after the flood. The king of the region refused to spend any tax revenue repairing the town. The villagers grew more and more desperate for help, and in 849 BCE, they rebelled against the king.
