PART FIVE- THE MAKING BEGINS!!!

Over the next two days you will be designing and making. Each one of your group members MUST sign up for a job, and are RESPONISBLE for completing the responsibilities of that job by Monday morning. Choose a job that you know you will enjoy and is compatible with your strengths

Below is a checklist that needs to be filled out and completed as you go.

Ropes Checklist

INDIVIDUAL TASK: EACH person in every group MUST complete all pages of the manual by Monday May 23rd.

GROUP TASKS: Sign up for a Group Job. There is a maximum number of members that can sign up for a job category. You cannot have more than the max! Your job must be completed by Monday, May 23rd. Please write in the name of the people responsible for completing this part. As you complete a task, a teacher initial is required. If you are finished with your entire job early, work on your manual or PART SIX.

  1. Cut List
/ - List AND draw all pieces of wood/materials that need to be cut.

  3. Include layout of where items will be placed.
  4. Include who is responsible for which tasks on the Cut List.

/ 2. ‘Living’ Blueprint / - Draw a sketch of the final Element.
  1. Should be proportional or approximately to a ¾” scale.
  2. Make changes and adaptations as necessary.
  3. Use to plan and communicate building goals to members and teachers.

/ 3. Build Structure / - Go to Makerspace and cut materials.
/ 4. Checkout & Check-in materials/tools from Makerspace / - Check out materials from Makerspace each morning of each workday.
- Return & check in materials at end of each day.
/ 5. Choose a location / - Choose a location for Element. Consider needs such as tree locations, running space, etc.:

Element Rulebook

/ - Type detailed rules for the Element and add to Google Docs Folder, entitled: ‘ARS Ropes Element Rules”
- Include a complete materials list for facilitators
- Make sure to title it “[Element Name] Rules”
/ 2. Booklet / - Create a booklet that includes:
a. How to use the Element.
b. Purpose of the Element.
c. Safety precautions.
d. Detailed diagrams of the Element.
e. A cover with element name and
color picture
Character Trait
(2 Maximum)
1. 3D model of character trait using recycled materials / - Use recycled materials to build a 3D model of one of the 7th grade character traits (Gratitude, Integrity, Curiosity, or Cooperation); or one of the 5 Cs (collaboration, community, creativity, critical thinking, communication) that relates specifically to the Element & activity.
2. Character Trait Reflection Video / -Record each of your member’s response to the following question: “How is this particular character trait related to our element?”

Fine Arts
(2 Maximum)
/ 1. Short Commercial / - Plan, video, and edit a short (10-15 seconds) commercial promoting the Element.
-Upload to “Ropes Fine Arts”
/ 2. Element Chant / - Write a short (1-3 sentence) chant for participants to learn.
  1. Chant should reinforce the character-building trait or traits most promoted by the Element.
  2. Structure the chant around a familiar tune or song.
  3. Record a video of your entire group performing the chant and upload to “Ropes Fine Arts”

3. Yard Art / Design and build a wind chime (per instructions given in your Jr. Teen Leadership Class) that relates to your element or a 7th Grade character trait.
Documentarian
(1-2 Maximum)
/ 1. Photographs / - Create a Google Slides photo presentation.
  1. Title it ‘IDU Ropes Group ___ Photos’ in the “Ropes Group Photo Folder”
  2. Add at least 20 different photos WITH captions that document the process of making the Element.

/ 2. Storyteller / - Write a 1-page article documenting the group’s experience with creating the Element.
  1. Include this article at the end of the Google Slides presentation.
- Assist photographer with captions for the photos.
Transition Camp Presenter/Facilitators
(2 Members)
1. Present on May 23rd- Reveal Day / -Present and facilitate the group’s Element for your co-seventh graders.
/ 2. Revisions
(other members can and should assist if necessary) / - Review, adjust, and correct any issues with the Element based on experiences with Reveal Day. Consider:
  1. Element strength adjustments.
  2. Element safety adjustments.
  3. Material adjustments.
  4. Process/activity adjustments.
  5. Booklet adjustments.
