The Lamb’s Supper

Book Study

Part 3: Good Vs. Evil

Chapter 1:

Ukrainian Christians “discovery” of the liturgy. “We did not know if we were in heaven or on earth.” (P 115)

Discussion: Imagine a person who had left the Catholic Church 10 years ago. They decide one morning to try out church again so they come to mass in our cluster. As they leave mass, what would he/she be thinking to themselves? Would they have any reason to come back?

Parousia= Presence already but not yet (P 116). Occiali Di Fede= Life changing (118).

Example: Studying in Rome (what I miss the most) and taking a trip to the Holy Land. God is no more present there than he is in every mass we have here.

Chapter 2:

Discussion: If God is victorious in the great battle of evil (Revelation) then why does our society look so corrupt? Why is the evening news full of bad stuff? Why is there evil in the world?

“Consider, for a moment, Jesus’ Jewish contemporaries” (P 133) My hopes as a priest over my first 4 years was a lot like being a whinny apostle.

The victory of Christ is through us in the Eucharist (P 135) Bring this to mass! (138)

Chapter 3:

Good is the opposite of great. We don’t go to mass because we are good people. We go to mass to be transformed into something great.

Discussion: The gospel of Matthew tells us to “be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect” Matthew 6:48. But we often admit that nobody is perfect. So what’s the deal? Are we supposed to be perfect or not?

“That’s why God gives us His own life in the sacraments” (P 151-152

Examples:

  1. Marriage as a vocation. Neither couples is perfect.
  2. Mingling of the water and wine at mass
  3. The apostles imperfections and sainthood (Judas gave up)

The victory is won not when we are totally free of mistakes or pray for 8 hours a day. The victory is won when we choose to never settle and never give up the battle to be better. – Fr. Kyle
