OCSACARE GOLD – Benefits and Contributions 2016

Contributions
The total contribution for 2015 will increase from R238 per employee to R249 per employee per month with effect 1January 2016. Parmalat SA (Pty) Ltd will continue to subsidize the contribution with 50%, i.e. the employee will pay R124 per month and ParmalatSA (Pty) Ltd will pay R125 per month on the employee’s behalf. Contributions are paid in advance, i.e. January 2016 contributions will be payable with the December 2015 payroll.

Benefits
You will continue to be able to see a private CareCross doctor for all your basic medical needs which include:

  • Doctor (GP) visits, no limited number of visits
  • Acute medication from your doctor and Chronic medication (3 months waiting period): delivered to your workplace
  • Doctor-recommended X-rays and recommended blood tests
  • Eye tests, lenses and frames from private optometrists (3 months waiting period)
  • Dental cleaning, fillings and extractions from private dentists (3 months waiting period)
  • HIV benefits: HIV Blood test, Pre-test counseling, Post-test counseling, Symptomatic treatment due to HIVinfection – e.g.:- pneumonia, Medication from a State Clinic with doctors referral
  • Doctor referral to state hospital specialists

OCSACare …

  • delivers benefits to employees under the Occupational Health and Safety Act No 85, 1993 and not the Medical Schemes Act;
  • is not regulated as a medical scheme, therefore no benefits in respect of the Prescribed Minimum Benefits;
  • does not cover dependants; benefits only for the employee;
  • does not have hospitalization benefits nor any benefits in respect of specialist doctors;

Company policy

  • It is compulsory for all permanent employees, except for employees on the A and B Paterson Grades; Staff covered on their spouse’s medical scheme and Pensioners, to become members of the medical scheme approved by Parmalat SA (Pty) Ltd, i.e. Discovery Health; from the date of entering service or promotion;
  • OCSACare is only available to permanent A & B grade employees;
  • Employees who are promoted to C grade must join Discovery Health within 90 days of the promotion and cancel OCSACare where applicable;
  • Employees are not allowed to belong to the medical scheme AND OCSACare;
  • A & B grade permanent employees who are members of Discovery Health and who wish to rather join OCSACare, need to consult with Alexander Forbes Health prior to making a decision in this regard as OCSACare is not a medical scheme and are therefore not allowed to offer employees and their dependants extensive and comprehensive medical cover;
  • Employees might be faced with a 3-month waiting period, 12-month existing condition waiting periods and/or late joiner penalties should they cancel Discovery Health membership and join at a later stage;

A& B Grade employees who currently participate in Discovery Health and wish to join OCSACare will need to sign a declaration after they have obtained advice from an Alexander Forbes Health consultant so that they can make informed decisions about the implication of such a choice.
