CHRISTMAS AT ST COLMCILLE’S

PENITENTIAL SERVICE

The Penitential Service will be held next Sunday 18th December at 3.00pm

BAMBINELLI SUNDAY

For several decades, an Italian tradition, has been to bring a Christ-child figure to St Peter’s Square, to be blessed by the Pope on a Sunday in Advent. As part of our Advent celebrations, all children and adults are invited to bring their Christ-child figure from home, to be blessed at the 9.30am Mass at St Colmcille’snext Sunday 18th December.

A suggestion is, following the blessing, take your ‘bambinelli’ home and place it in a gift box, wrap it, and save it for Christmas. Let this be the first gift your family opens on Christmas, when together you place the Christ-child figure in your Crib.

TAP CHRISTMAS GIFT CARDS

Give a really worthwhile Christmas present this year - a Christmas Gift Card to support our twinned parish of Moita Bwawani in our Tanzanian Africa Project. Choose from 3 life-changing themes. Buy a year’s School Uniform for a Masaai Child for £10. Sponsor a Catechist to spread the Word of God, also for £10. Give pre-natal and ante-natal care to Masaai mothers-to-be and with our Mobile Medical Clinic Appeal for £20. Cards on sale in the church porch this weekend and each weekend up to Christmas.

ST COLMCILLE’S ADVENT SERVICE

Everyone is invited to participate in the annual

Advent Service led by our Parish Choir and St Joseph’s Primary School at

6.00pm this Sunday 11th December.

Refreshments afterwards in the Parochial Hall.

GAUDATE SUNDAY

Joyful Sunday. The ancient Latin title for this Third Sunday of Advent is Guadate, that is “joyful” Sunday. Hence the pink-coloured candle in the Advent wreath lit on this weekend, in contrast to the purple-colored ones for all the other Sundays of the season.

We are joyful because the Lord is near. Soon we will celebrate his Incarnation, his coming among us in the flesh.

He comes among us due to his own loving kindness, which is immense, eternal and infinite. That divine love touches us; we bask in it. We

are changed for the better because of it; we become more loving and kind.

BAPTISM

We joyfully welcome into the Parish Family

Harriet Emily Press, Edward Arthur Press,

Matilda May Press, and Finn Kevin Shevlin.

who were Baptised in St Colmcille’s last weekend.

When arranging a Baptism please contact the Parish office to register attendance at the Baptism meeting. This will be held every third Tuesday of each month in the Iona Room. You may arrange the Baptism date at this meeting and complete the registration card. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 20th December at 8.00pm.
