Join us for an exciting and educational two-week trip to France in 2015, visiting museums, churches and other historic sites and studying the art, history and culture of Medieval France.

Classes offered: HIS 211: France in Europe to 1500 (3 semester hours)

HUM 195: French Literature and Culture (3 semester hours)

Classes will meet during the evening at the JTCC Midlothian campus starting on May 26.

Sites to be visited in and around Paris: Notre Dame; S. Denis; Conciergerie, Sainte-Chapelle; Louvre; Château de Vincennes; Museum of the Middle Ages; Versailles; Eiffel Tower. Outside Paris: churches and towns of Amiens, Chartres, Rouen, Caen, Bayeux, and Reims.

PROGRAM COSTS: $3290 per person with 16 paid participants; $3060 with 24; and $2880 with 36. Includes round trip travel from Richmond to Paris, double occupancy hotel with daily breakfast, four group dinners and travel by motor coach from Paris to Rouen, Caen, and Bayeux. Other group travel (to Chartres, Amiens and Reims), museum admissions, tuition, books, other meals and personal expenses will be additional.

DEPOSIT of $500, plus $80 for travel insurance (total of $580) due by November 15; additional $1000 by January 31, 2015; final payment in full due by April 24, 2015.

Daily breakfast will be provided at hotels; lunch is at participants’ expense; dinners are at participants’ expense unless otherwise indicated (group dinners on 6/25, 7/2, 7/5 and 7/7).

Wednesday, 24 June: Optional group motor coach to Washington Dulles for 6:30 PM departure on overnight flight via London Heathrow toParis Orly Airport.

Day 1, Thursday, 25 June: Arrive Paris CDG 1 PM;coach transport to hotel for check-in, then walk around Montmartre to get bearings. Late fternoon river cruise (bateaux mouches, leave from Eiffel Tower or Pont Neuf). Group dinner in Paris bistro. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 2, Friday, 26 June:Morning trip to Chartres (1h 15m each way on the train, leaving from Paris-Montparnasse), visit to Notre Dame Cathedral and walk though old town to Romanesque Église St. Pierre ; lunch on your own in Chartres and afternoon return to Paris. Optional later afternoon walk along Seine and visit to Eiffel Tower to watch sun set over city. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 3, Saturday, 27 June:Metro to St-Denis for morning visit (opens 10 am); afternoon visit by Metro (change to Line 1 at Champs Élysées-Clemenceau) to Château de Vincennes (open until 6 PM; chapel open 3-4 PM). Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 4, Sunday, 28 June: Morning visit to Louvre; lunch on your own and afternoon free for shopping or strolling, or optional visit to Musee d’Orsay or other museum. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 5, Monday, 29 June: Musée de Moyen Age in morning; afternoon walk through Latin Quarter with visits to S. Severin, S. Germain-des-Pres, and S. Julien le Pauvre. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 6, Tuesday, 30 June:Visit Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle, and Conciergerie; after lunch on your own, group walk to Ile St-Louis. Afternoon free for exploration, or group walk to several other medieval sites in Paris—Hotel de Sens, Cloister de Billettes, and the oldest house in Paris on rue Volta. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 7, Wednesday, 1 July:Morning RER to Versailles, tour of palace and gardens. Afternoon return to Paris, evening stroll down Champs Elysees, through Jardin des Tuileries and along Seine. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 8, Thursday, 2 July:Check out of Paris hotel. Morning bus to Rouen (1h30-2h on the bus), Visit Rouen Cathedral, tour the old town. Afternoon bus to Caen (Rouen-Caen 1h 30m on the bus); group dinner in Caen and overnight in Caen hotel.

Day 9, Friday, 3 July:Morning visit in Caen to William the Conqueror’s Duke’s Castle, Abbaye aux Hommes. Lunch on your own. Afternoon bus to Bayeux. Visit Tapestry Museum (open 2-6pm), and cathedral. Bus back to Caen. Overnight in Caen hotel.

Day 10, Saturday, 4 July:Morning bus from Caen to St-Aubin-sur-Mer and D-Day Beaches. Free time for lunch on your own after visiting beaches and museum. Afternoon bus back to Paris. (3h). Check into Paris Hotel. Group Independence Day (Dutch treat) dinner at Chicago Pizza Pie Factory. Overnight in Paris.

Day 11, Sunday, 5 July:Day trip to Reims (45m-1 hour each way on the train with TGV, 2+ hours without, leaving from Paris-Gare de l’Est), visit cathedral, bishop’s palace, return to Paris in afternoon. Group dinner in Paris upon return.Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 12, Monday, 6 July: Day trip to Amiens (1h15m-1h45m each way on bus or train, leaving from Paris-Gare du Nord), visit cathedral and free time in town (optional visit to Musée de Picardie), with afternoon return to Paris by train. (Possible stop in Beauvais if train schedules permit or if using bus). Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 13, Tuesday, 7 July:Last day in Paris: free day to shop, sightsee, etc. Optional group visit to Arc de Triomphe and Paris walk at participants’ choice. Musee d’Orsay is open late (9:45) for return visit. Group farewell dinner in Paris. Overnight in Paris hotel.

Day 14, Wednesday, 8 July: Late morning hotel check-out and coach transport to airport for return flight from Paris to Richmond. Depart Paris Orly 3:55 PM, change at London Heathrow, arrive Washington Dulles 8:35 PM. Optional group motor coach transport to Midlothian.
