Parents – please keep this letter for your records!

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Greetings from Strongsville High School! My name is Ms. Sejka (pronounced “say-kah”) and I will be your child’s Business & Management Foundations teacher this year.

This is my 18th year of teaching and 14th year at Strongsville High School. I have taught Accounting, Business & Management Foundations, and Spanish I, II and III (I am also a certified Spanish teacher!) during my tenure at SHS. I earned a B.A. in Spanish and a minor in Finance from the University of Findlay. I also earned an International Master’s of Business Administration degree from Baldwin-Wallace College. Over the summer I spent wonderful quality time with my 9½-year-old daughter, Demitra. It has been a relaxing summer but I am now very eager to begin a new year at the high school and teach your child!

Before working as a teacher, I worked in the banking industry. I worked two years at Huntington National Bank and two years at Chemical Financial Services (Chemical Bank). My immediate family and other family members own or have owned their own business. Because of this, I have a wide variety of hands-on knowledge in the business world. I try to stimulate student interest by incorporating various stories and knowledge I have from this experience. Your child will hear many Flaming Gyros stories!

I often try to utilize computers and the Internet in my lessons during the year. I will show your child how to create a resume, list of references, and show them briefly how to use Excel. Grades are computed on the PASS system. Please refer to that program once (approximately) every ten days for an update on your child’s grade.

For weekly assignments, you can call my homework hotline (440.268.5628) or ask your child to show you their planner. On a weekly basis, I will post all assignments on the board in my classroom for students to reference. I hope to organize a field trip to go to the Federal Reserve branch in Cleveland during the spring. I hope your child will take advantage of this wonderful experience!

I am confident that in our working together, your child will not only reach his/her fullest potential, but will also experience a positive learning situation while learning business. If you should have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at 440.572.7100. You may leave a message for me at 440.268.5628 and I will call you back as soon as possible. If you have an email account, feel free to send me a message at – email is the best way to contact me.

Lastly, to better get to know you and your child, please complete the attached information sheet and have your child bring it to me or you can send it to me at the high school, 20025 Lunn Road, 44149. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share this information with me!

Here's to a great semester and I am looking forward to meeting you at Open House on August 31st and/or Parent Conferences on Thursday, October 13th!

Sincerely,

Ms. Cynthia Sejka (say kah)
