Parents’ Advisory Group Meeting Minutes1/5/16

Attended:

·  Jolyn Schmeling • Jason Callahan • Lequisha Johnson • Laura McLaughlin

·  Theresa Hospodka • Desiree Rutten • Lee Davis • Colleen Davis

Topics Discussed:

1.  Free Money Programs

·  Hy-Vee receipts: $33,000 in receipts gained HN approximately $165. Time and effort involved far outweighed the payout, plus contradictory information as to how to batch & prepare the receipts was received from Hy-Vee. The majority of receipts received were collected at the church, not the school. In the future, Parent Club will most likely not participate.

·  Fish Fry Cleanup – Men’s Club has offered funds to the Parent Club if parents will clean up after the first Fish Fry (2/5/16) from 9:00 PM to Midnight. This will be finalized with Tanya Davis. As a reminder, a minimum of 20 volunteers are needed to achieve this cleanup. Responsible 7th & 8th graders can count toward the 20 volunteers needed, but mainly parent volunteers are needed. Jolyn will contact Mr. McCarville for a list of students to help. This will be added to the iVolunteer website for parents to sign up.

·  Information will be gathered to alternate different restaurants for “Holy Name Night”, not Mama’s Pizza once a month, and possibly not Mama’s Pizza at all. The initial plan is for a different restaurant for each month school is in session and possibly including the months school isn’t in session as well.

·  Humble Jumble has offered Parent Club 50% of proceeds for hours worked by parents the 3rd Sat. of the month beginning from Feb. forward. 2 workers are needed from 10:00AM-1:00PM and 2 workers are needed from 1:00-4:00PM. Other groups in HN work the other Saturdays each month and receive the same benefit.

2.  Spirit Wear

·  Spirit wear will be sold at some home basketball games. Jason approved this as Athletic Director and will assist with the sales. Merchandise will be price tagged to make shopping and checkout easier. Order forms will be used for these sales for tracking sales as well as tracking what will need to be ordered as all items will not be available for sale at the games.

3.  Parent Ambassador Group – no new info at this time

4.  Humble Jumble – see above in #1

5.  Christmas Corner – Preliminary estimate is that $900 of merchandise was sold. Because so many items were sold, more money will be needed to re-stock than originally anticipated. Theresa is asking for donations of merchandise for Christmas Corner.

6.  Hospitality

·  SOF lunch 1/18/16 (~45 teachers) – some volunteers are signed up but more are still needed

·  Teacher Breakfast for Catholic Schools Week 2/1/16 (~25 teachers)

·  Parent/Teacher Conferences dinner 2/11/16 (~25 teachers) – considering purchasing this dinner, but would like to have volunteers provide the meal if possible

·  SOF lunch 5/9/16 (~45 teachers). Parent Club may not be responsible for providing food & drink for this date, more info to come. This opportunity will be added to the iVolunteer website at a later date if necessary.

7.  Catholic Schools Week – Jan. 31 – Feb. 5, 2016

·  Theresa will check with Jodi to see if she wants to join her in being a CSW Committee member.

8.  Spring Fundraiser – Rambler Run Friday, May 13, 2016 (will not be My School Color Run)

·  There are several goals: fundraiser for Parent Club (so we want to limit the amount of money that has to be spent on the event), health day for the whole school, event for the students to enjoy

9.  Spring Family Dinner – Thursday, April 14, 2016; chairperson is needed - will be added to iVolunteer at later date.

·  An email will be sent asking for a volunteer to chair this event.

10.  8th Grade Graduation Reception – Tuesday, May 24, 2016 – It will be added to iVolunteer website at a later date.

·  6th & 7th graders and their parents will be involved in putting on the Graduation Reception.

11.  Other

·  Christmas Tree removal and storage – Tree will be taken down for storage beginning at 10:00AM 1/9/16. Dr. Ridder wants to know if anyone on Parent Club will take responsibility for storing the Christmas items. This brought up the need for a designated area to store Parent Club items.

·  Volunteer opportunity on iVolunteer: Afternoon help at the Welcome Desk M-F 12:00-3:15PM

·  Art Club possibly starting up for 4th-8th graders. Considering holding it every Tuesday for the alternating grades that are not attending Makers Workshop each week.

·  It was decided to purchase clear glass ornaments on clearance with Parent Club funds. These can be used for the students to decorate as keepsake ornaments to be hung on the Parent Club Christmas Tree next year.

12.  Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 5, 2016, at 5:45 PM
