RYA Team GBR–Topper Irish National Championship2006 –Wexford

Introduction

A team of up to 12 boats will be selected to represent RYA Team GBR at the Topper Irish National Championships, atWexford Harbour Yacht Club, Ireland. The event takes place from the 18th to the 20th of August 2006.

The RYA will arrange transport for the boats, flights for the sailors, accommodation, food, and coach Supportfor all the boatsselected to represent RYA Team GBRfor the duration of the regatta and for pre-regatta training which will take place at the regatta venue from Wednesday the 16th of August 2006.

For boats selected, the sailors will be expected to contribute the sum of £120 towards the cost of food and accommodation at the regatta. Those sailors chosen to represent RYA Team GBR will also receive Coach Support from the RYA TopperIrish National Championship Coaches(Dave Cockerill and Duncan Truswell) prior to and during the regatta.

Sailors accepting a place will load their boats on to the trailers on the final day of the ITCA(GBR) National Championship hosted by Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy on Friday the 11th of August 2006.

Places will be offered at the discretion of the selection committee, to sailors who in their opinion have demonstrated the most potential to win medals for RYA Team GBR at international competitions in the subsequent years.

Sailors who are being encouraged to make the transition into the youth classes after the summer are unlikely to be selected for this regatta; they are urged to spend time training in their chosen youth class prior to the autumn regattas.

When selecting the sailors to represent RYA Team GBR the selection committee will take the following factors into account:

  • Performance in the Indicator series
  • Age and potential
  • Factors affecting results
  • Attitude and behaviour throughout the series and during previous training
  • Class ranking list
  • Performance in other events
  • Goals and aspirations
  • Height and weight
  • Other factors the selection committee considers appropriate.

The selection committee will be made up of the Topper Steering Team (or their appointed representatives) which currently consists of:

  • RYA Junior Racing Manager- Duncan Truswell (selection committee Chairman)
  • Topper Steering Team Chairman- John Smalley
  • ITCA(GBR) Chairman- Miles Palmer
  • RYA Topper National Junior Squad Coach- Dave Cockerill

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the RYA Team GBR, sailors shall normally be aged under 16 years on the 31st of December 2006.

In addition selected Topper sailors must be resident in Great Britain, hold or be eligible to hold a British passport, and eligible to represent Great Britain in the ISAF Youth World Sailing Championships.

Indicator Events

The 2006Topper Irish National Championship International grant indicator events are:

Topper Inland Championship– Grafham Water SC. 29th–30th April 2006.

Topper Nationwide Series 2– South Caernarvonshire YC. (Abersoch) 17th–18thJune 2006.

Scoring

12 races are scheduled as part of the indicator series. The series will be scored by adding together the individual race scores from each indicator event, scores shall be discarded on the basis below:

The competitor with the lowest points will be the winner of the Indicator series.

Registration, Entry Fees and Measurement

There is no application process for the indicator series, successful sailors will be notified using their contact details held with ITCA(GBR) or the sailors local RYA High Performance Manager.

Details of the selections will be published on the RYA web-site in due course.

There will be no additional entry fee for the Topper International travel grant indicator Series.

All boats must conform to the Class Association rules and measurements.

There will be no appeals against the published selection criteria or the actions of the selectors, provided they follow the selection criteria. By entering the regattas which constitute the RYA Topper International Travel Grant Indicator events the competitors agree to this condition.

Status

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA)’s policies and procedures are subject to change from time to time, including variations required to comply with Sports Councils’ directions on the investment of National Lottery funds.

The RYA reserves the right to amend, supplement and/or discontinue at its absolute discretion, for whatever reason, any or all of its policies and procedures.
