Wrestling coach

*Wrestling is an emotionally charged sport. Many of the kids will cry. Some will cry during tough practices, some will cry when they lose, some will cry when win. Crying is ok!

* Dress appropriately. Head gear and wrestling shoes are mandatory. Mouth guards mandatory with braces.

*Nails must be trimmed. This is also mandatory. It helps fight off skin infections.

*Skin infections. Very common. Sanitizing wipes and soap available online and in some stores. They should shower after every practice and every match to help prevent infections.

*Long hair – hair slicker is required.

*Missing practice - You may only miss one practice per week for JV/V. Novice is not mandatory to attend but they do however only practice twice a week so try to get them there.

*Coaches Philosophy: The more you wrestle the better you will be!!I do not encourage cutting weight at this age. You may only drop one weight class to ensure safety for all wrestlers.

*Info/Rules for completion t teams (jv & v)

-Competition team is decided by wrestle offs. They are held at the beginning of each week. Single elimination. IF you lose that night you are out. You may come back and wrestle off again the following week. Once a wrestler wins three wrestle offs in a row they have secured the position for that weight class and can no longer be challenged.

-If you make one of these teams and you can’t make a match - please call or text Scott so we can find someone to replace them. A No Call No Show is unacceptable and not fair to the rest of the team. The first time this happens then you will not be eligible for the entire next competition event; the 2nd time this happens you will be ineligible for the competition team the remainder of the year.

-You must make weight. Please be conscience of your child’s weight when signing up for wrestle offs.

*We have three pre-season tournaments. Duel in the Den, Cardinal Clash, Fall Brawl. All three count toward wrestle offs. Wrestlers can lock in a spot prior to the first regular season match.

*If you wrestle off and win – the coaches MAY adjust the line up by bumping any wrestler up by one weight class.

*One pound growth allowance takes effect in January. (up NOT down).

*Advanced practice participants will be determined by the coaches.

*Novice practice runs T/Th from 6-7. Advanced practice runs M/T/Th/Fri from 7-8:30.

Varsity wrestlers are automatically in the advanced practice. JV will be determined by the coaches.
