Autumn Term 2016

/ Inquisitive Otters Striving To Meet Our Challenges

7th October 2016

Dear Parents,

We have had a very busy week this week.

Monday morning we started off the week with our learning together session. We created some really important posters and videos based on e-safety and I would like to thank those parents that managed to make it to our session this time.

In English we finished our unit looking at Aesop’s Fables by writing our own as part of our Big Write on Friday. This week, to make the most of National Poetry Day and our own Poetry Week, we have been learning some poems to perform in assembly on Friday and trying to write some stanzas of our own too. Our next unit, that will take us to half term, will be based on the books “Stone Age Boy” and “Stig of the Dump”.

These books will continue to engage the children our topic work and to give them an understanding into the different lives of the Stone Age people and how we live now.

This week in Maths, we have been practicing column addition and ensuring that a consistent approach is being used. We are using the long addition method and carrying over to the next column. Preferably carrying under the column, but some of the children have a method that works for them, where they carry at the top.

In Art, we have been experimenting with water colours and painting some beautiful boats after researching the maritime history of Woodbridge. These will be used for a large exhibition in Woodbridge later in the year.

On that subject, I would like to repeat my request that each child brings in an old t-shirt or shirt for painting, it saves their school uniform from getting messy.

Please also make sure your child has their PE kit in school from Monday to Friday and that for life skills they have gardening clothes, cooking aprons and boxes to cover all eventualities, it might be that they have to swap groups at the last minute.

Have a lovely weekend while the weather is still good,

Mrs Spencer
