  1. Reading to Enrich

In education there is a push to be sure all students learn to read by 3rd grade so they can read to learn for the rest of their schooling, but what about learning to read for pure enrichment? This committee is investigating ways to support student reading outside of the classroom with an emphasis on the enrichment reading adds to one’s background.

  1. Fourth Way

There have been many changes in education since one room school houses began, but three major “ways” of change have taken place in the United States. The First Way included state support and professional freedom, the Second Way included competition and standardization, while the Third Way continues to attempt to balance professional autonomy with accountability. This group is looking for a Fourth Way which will help educators support a culture that is inclusive, inspiring, and sustainable.

  1. Leadership

What makes one person have the ability to motivate or connect to others over another? Are there key characteristics a person is born with or can those aspects be learned? This group will look at questions such as this with a goal of creating a class/program which will help our students develop key facets for becoming a more effective leader.

  1. Beyond the Bubble

Getting the community into the schools and schools into the community is a one of the goals of Aurora High School. There are so many experiences beyond the walls of AHS which could help to enrich our students learning experience while at the same time there are so many resources right here in Aurora that can be brought into the schools to expand the students’ experience. This group will not only focus on getting students connected to experts outside of the school within the community, but also beyond Aurora as well which the kids like to refer to as “the bubble”.
