DANCE COURSE GUIDELINES & REQUIREMENTS

Dance includes discussion, demonstration, small and large group activities, projects, performance and performance –sharing. Students will learn about ideas, beliefs, cultures and feelings of humankind as communicated through movement. As introductory overview of dance, this course will include different genres of dance, ballet, modern jazz, and multi-cultural dances. Dance would address concerns of aesthetics and criticism as well as history and performance.

ATTENDANCE – Attendance is crucial. This is an experiential class, therefore you must be present and on time, there is no way to make up experiences missed when you are absent. Five minutes will be given to change and students are expected to be ready to move after the changing period. Guidelines for illness or injuries are similar to those in Physical Education class. You may observe class if you are ill or injured (only 3 per semester) and written observation to be submitted at end of class. If more than 3 observation, an addition written assignment will be assigned. Excessive absences or observations will result in lowering of grade or WF.

DRESS- Preferably dark colors- Leotards, tights (convertibles), sweat pants, exercise pants, t- shirts or tank –tops. NO writing of words across bottom or front of shirts NO extra long or big pants, NO pajama bottoms or hot pants.

Hair must be pulled off your face and secured.

FOOTWEAR- we will do most classes in bare feet. Ballet and Jazz shoes and sneakers maybe used for certain classes; you will be given advanced notice of when to bring them. Socks may be worn for some portions of warm- up but must be removed for center work.

Excessive absences or observations will result in lowering of grade or WF.
