Focus: Vertebrates & Invertebrates
We will focus on passages and activities on these topics to review reading skills, but most of our focus this week is on a writing assessment that is for a grade and practicing various writing prompts to prepare for next week’s state Writing test. Math and Writing Sections – May 8-10

  • Using sentence variety: simple, compound, & complex sentences
  • Using transition words
  • Using evidence to answer prompts
  • DON’T FORGET R.A.C.E:

TESTS THIS WEEK:
1) A Writing Assessment will be given on James and the Giant Peach.
2) Vocabulary Test (List 2) – given on Thurs.
3) Daily Grade 4.2 – given on Friday / Math Skills this week include:
Topic 16: Data and REVIEW
Monday- 16:3- Reading Pictographs and Bar Graphs
Tuesday- 16:1-3 Lesson Check and 16:4- Making Pictographs

CAPTIVATING CREATURES VOCABULARY
LIST 2 -TEST IS THISTHURSDAY, MAY 4th!
1.aquatic - growing or living in water; taking place in water.
2. invertebrate - a living creature that lacks a backbone
3. marine biologist - a scientist that studies things that relate to the sea
4. predators - an animal that lives by killing and eating other animals
5. prey - an animal hunted by another animal
6. vertebrate - a living creature that has a backbone
7. nocturnal - active at night
8. diurnal - active during the day
9. arachnid - spiders and other related creatures with eight legs and no antennae
10. hibernate- a period of inactivity in which some animals conserve energy due to lack of food
11. molting - the act of shedding old feathers, skin, hair or an old shell to make room for new growth
12. echolocation - the location of objects by reflected sound, in particular that used by animals such as dolphins and bats

OUR TESTING PEP RALLY IS THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON! Each class will get to perform their class cheer or song for the whole grade. **Students only
Please review the words for our class song that should be in your child’s binder. We will also wear our class shirts on Friday. They will be passed out then. We will keep them for Monday testing. They will not be sent home until May 10thafter testing is over.  / We will be examining writing prompts and writing paragraphs daily to prepare for the state writing test. We will do extra writing during Enrichment time, as well.  Please review the R.A.C.E. book at home. 
