INTRODUCTION TO ETHICS

PAPER PARTICULARS

  • You will be assigned a paper topic and position on that topic.
  • Argumentative/Persuasive paper structure
  • Include an introduction and conclusion.The main points of your paper should be identified in the introduction.
  • Remember that this is a philosophical paper. You are not providing a research paper on the topic; you are creating an argument in support of your specific topic. You need to keep the ethical dilemma in mind while writing.
  • Include at least three arguments to support the position you have been assigned.
  • Include at least one opposing argument against your topicand your criticism of that argument.
  • 5-7 pages in length
  • Must be typed
  • Times New Roman font
  • 12 point font size
  • Double spaced
  • Make sure to cite properly and when necessary.Any citation style is accepted: MLA, APA, footnotes, endnotes, etc. I have citation help websites located on my faculty web page. If you reference an article we discussed in class, then you must cite it
  • Please refer to my faculty web page for sources on plagiarism. Remember plagiarism can either be intentional or unintentional and either category with result in a failing grade and possibly the course.
  • A works cited page is required. You must include citations from any article used in class as well as outside sources.
  • Remember that direct quotes require quotation marks and in text documentation. Any quote over four lines requires block quote format.
  • Make sure your paper is well organized and easily understood
  • Everyone will sign-up for the day they want to give their presentation (remember the more quickly you get it over with, the less you will have to do at the end of the semester).
  • Once you sign-up for your paper/presentation it will not be possible for you to change the date.
  • Worth 50 points

PRESENTATION

  • The presentation is an oral overview of your paper (make sure to include all the key points from your paper).
  • Everyone will sign-up for the day they want to give their presentation (remember the quicker you get it over with, the less you will have to do at the end of the semester).
  • Once you sign-up for your paper/presentation it will not be possible for you to change the date.
  • A minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes in length
  • Visual aids or hand-outs may be used but are not required. PowerPoint is acceptable, but do not read from slides.
  • Video clips are permitted, but limited to 2 minutes.
  • Include your reaction to doing this project, especially if your person position differs from the assigned topic.
  • Speak in a clear tone that is easily understood.
  • Make sure your key points are well organized and flow together.
  • Worth 50 points

NOTE

If you absolutely have your heart set on a different topic; either from the topics covered in class, or a different ethical topic not discussed in class, then make an appointment to speak with me. If you choose an alternative topic, you need to meet with me as soon as possible. Do not wait until presentations start.
