FACILITY FUEL-OIL PUMPS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A.Section Includes: Include labor, materials, equipment, and accessories necessary to furnish and install fuel oil pumps and make connections into fuel oil piping system.

1.02 SUBMITTALS

A.Shop Drawings: Submit a portfolio showing fuel oil pumps to be used, with all characteristics, for approval by Architect/Engineer.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURERS

A.Direct Connected Drive Fuel Oil Pumps: Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows or Owner approved equal:

2.02 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

A.Condition: Pumps and related equipment shall be as specified below. Pumps shall be new and unused, except for tests, and shall be of one manufacturer.

A.General Requirements:

1.Provide separately mounted direct drive duplex oil pump set. Each pump shall be equipped with relief valve, (2) check valves, basket type oil filter, pressure gauges.

2.Provide drip pan and angle iron wall bracket.

3.Provide a duplex set of fuel oil circulating pumps as drawn to serve the boiler burner(s). These pumps shall each be full size and designed to circulate No. 2 fuel oil from the storage tank to the burner(s).

B.Pump Casings: Pump casings shall be precision cast iron and shall be designed to permit replacement of wearing parts. Pump casings shall be of uniform quality and free from blowholes, porosity, hard spots, shrinkage defects, cracks, and other injurious defects. Defects in casings shall not be repaired, except when such work is approved and is done by or under the supervision of the pump manufacturer, and then only when the defects are small and do not adversely affect the strength or use of the casing.

C.Impellers: Rotor and idler shall be machine ground to match for positive displacement of fuel oil. Idler shall also be ground to match pump casing.

D.Rotor and Shaft: High grade steel, accurately machined. Shaft shall be of sufficient strength to perform the work required.

E.Idler and Idler Pin: High grade steel, accurately machined, and shall be of sufficient strength to perform the work required.

F.Mechanical Seal: Carbongraphite mechanical seal shall have a bronze bushing for the mechanical seal seat.

G.Relief Valve: Furnish pump with an integral relief valve mounted on cast iron casing.

2.04 DIRECT DRIVE ASSEMBLY

A.Base: Mount pump and motor on a formed steel base.

B.Pump and Drive Assembly: Bolt pump assembly to step on base. Motor and pump shaft shall be aligned and joined using a heavy duty, flexible type coupling keyed and locked to shaft. Coupling faces shall be machined perpendicular to shaft axis. Disconnecting couplings shall be accomplished without the driver half or the pump half of coupling from shaft.

C.Electric Motors: Bolt motor to steel pump base and align with pump shaft. Each pump shall be driven by a continuous duty, open dripproof electric motor. See Section 230513, Electrical Motor Schedule, or the equipment schedule for voltage and rpm requirements. See Section 230513 for motor minimum efficiency.

3.01 PUMPS

A.Installation: Install pumps where shown on Drawings. Contractor shall notify applicable Contractor of pump dimensions, weight, and final locations for pump mounting pads.

B.Valves, Cocks, and Fittings: Fuel oil supply, in boiler room line ahead of separation to two pumps, shall have a line sized ball valve and a line sized strainer followed by a vacuum gauge. Pumps shall have line sized valves throughout as follows: check valve, ball valve, long reducer and union on pump suction and union, and long reducer and ball valve on pump discharge.

C.Connections: Refer to Section 231113 and details on Drawings for pumping connections into oil fired systems.

3.02 ELECTRICAL WORK FOR OIL PUMPS:

A.General Installation Requirements:

1.All power and control wiring and connections required for tank accessories (fuel oil pump) shall be provided by the Mechanical Contractor.

2.Raceways shall be galvanized steel EMT and exposed through unfinished spaces. Raceways shall be installed in a workmanlike manner, rigidly supported, and square with the building construction.

3.Pull boxes shall be installed in long runs where necessary to facilitate pulling wires. Expansion fittings shall be furnished and installed where conduits run through building expansion joints, these to be O.Z. type AX, or approved equivalent. Follow manufacturer's instruction as to installation of the joints.

4.Conductors shall be carefully handled and installed in accordance with manufacturer's directions.
