Panel Discussion Information Sheet & Submission Form

This year the CoLA Summer Institute will highlight work from Virginia’s school divisions in a new way. We are introducing panel discussion sessions. Just as we have done with poster sessions in past years, the panel discussions will be an avenue for sharing the amazing work you are doing in school divisions around the state.For this session, we are looking for a few great school divisions to present projects upon which they have been working to improve services to students with ASD or similar disabilities.

Up to 2 presenters per school division may submit one panel session for consideration. If selected, presenters will prepare and deliver a 10-minute live presentation highlighting a project or initiative related to one of the following topics:

  • Building Capacity (e.g.: Coaching, Professional development, Professional Learning Communities, etc.)
  • Implementing Evidence Based Practicesthrough Data-based Decision Making
  • Addressing Classroom Content and Instruction (e.g.: social skills, embedding standards, etc.)

Selected panelists will be paired with others presenting the same topic area. Panel discussions will be scheduled during a 90 minute session, allowing all panelists to present (10 minutes maximum) and field questions during a brief question and answer period. We always encourage and appreciate the presentation of data supporting the project.

A LCD projector with a standard PC connection cord, screen, and flip chart paper will be provided. Selected presenters should bring a laptop or tablet with their presentation pre-loaded and any cords or adapters (for Apple computers) or speakers that might be necessary for the presentation.

Proposals should be submitted by May 15, 2017. Once received, proposals will be considered based on the following:

  • The description of the proposal clearly outlines the purpose, process, and outcomes or intended outcomes of the project.
  • The project has maintained or shows potential for sustainability in the school division.
  • The project has broader reaching applications or could be replicated in other school divisions.
  • The project has a focus on evidence-based practices in ASD.
  • The project contributes to the growth of education, awareness, and/or professional development in the area of ASD.
  • The extent to which the project makes an impact on educators, students, and/or school divisions.

Once proposals are submitted, the conference committee will determine those who are accepted for the panel discussions and presenters will be notified. If accepted, presenters will need to confirm their acceptance.

All participating divisions will be entered into a drawing. At the close of the conference, two divisions will be awarded one free registration to the 2018 CoLA Summer Institute!

All submissions must be received by May 15, 2017. Submissions will be reviewed and final submissions will be chosen by the conference committee based on the listed criteria.

Entrants will be notified of the status of their submission by June 1st.

All panel discussion participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
