  1. ‘Speak up Feedback’ –

Deeksha Dhar ( Paediatric Trainee and TC member) led a group discussion outlining the ‘Speak Up’ project, a system of individual, anonymous feedback for senior paediatric trainees and Consultants, and invited Trust Reps to give their feedback. There was a lot of enthusiasm in the room, and trainees provided some valuable feedback on project methodology, timing and sustainability, as well as barriers to implementation. We conducted a similar focus group with the South London STC Consultant body in the afternoon, which again threw up some important factors to consider in the overall project design.

Action Point: The Quality Assurance subgroup of the Trainees’ Committee to draw up a project blueprint taking into account feedback from the sessionsand subsequently run a pilot.

  1. ‘Opportunities during your Paediatric Training Programme in London’

Dr Philippa Prentice (Paediatric Trainee) presented on ‘Paediatric Training Routes: What, WhyAnd How?’. This included lots of valuable information and tips for trainees and her excellent presentation will be uploaded to the LSP website.

Action point: Trust Representative to share the presentation with theirtrainees.

  1. Workshop- Work Discussion Groups

Su Laurent (Paediatric Consultant and TPD)with support of Paediatric trainees (Hannah Jacob and Jo Cryer) ran a workshop exploring one way in which we can offer reflective space to trainees. This follows on from work suggestingpaediatric trainees often feel that they wouldlike more emotional support around events at work. The workshop was aimed at helping build resilience in our teams.Inspired by the Balint groups that often form a part of general practice training, attendees discussed a challenging situation or case in small groups. The format involved one person bringing a case or situation and describing what happened and the difficulties. The other participants were then able to ask questions of the presenter to clarify the situation for 5-10 minutes, after which the presenter became an observer. The rest of the group then discussed the issues and suggested solutions or alternative ways of framing the problem. Finally, the presenter was invited to make any comments about what had been discussed.

Action point: Trust Representative to feedback to their Trust and explore ways locally to offer reflective space to trainees.
