Wichita State University Foundation announces record-breaking fundraising year
WICHITA, Kan. – Supporters of Wichita State University committed more than$56 million in the fiscal year ending June 30, surpassing the institution’s previous record— last year, of just more than $49 million. This unprecedented private support includesgifts of cash, gifts-in-kind, pledges and new planned gifts fromdonors age 66and older.
“It’s obvious to me how much our alumni and friends care about the future of Wichita State,” said Elizabeth King, WSU Foundation president and CEO. “We are proud to joinwith our supporters who share in the vision that will build the next era of distinction at our university.”
According to King, support for the comprehensive campaign, to be announced this fall, is the focus for many of the university’s donors. The campaign will fund critical capital projects,increase the amount ofendowed student and faculty support, and enhance many of WSU’s programs, which propel WSU toward becoming an Innovation University.
“Everything we do is about helping our region diversify and prosper through our people, new technologies and opportunities,” said WSU President John Bardo. “Our donors understand that strategy and willingly invest in strengthening our faculty and empowering our students,preparing them to lead us into our future.”
The WSU Foundation received four gifts, pledges and gifts-in-kind of $1 million or more duringfiscal year 2016.
- A gift-in-kind from Beechcraft Corp. valued at $4,376,079 for equipment for NIAR
- A $2,435,162 pledge from CybertronPC to provide equipment and support for the Experiential Engineering Building
- A $1,050,000 pledge from the Anderson Family Charitable Gift Fund to establish the Bob and Darlene Anderson General Athletic Scholarship
- A $1 million pledge from the Dwane and Velma Lunt Wallace Charitable Foundation to revitalize Wallace Hall

During fiscal year 2016 almost $2 million in planned gifts were realized from 18 different estates.
“WSU Foundation staff members booked 33 new planned gifts during last fiscal year,” said Mike Lamb, WSU Foundation vice president for planned giving.
