PAIMAN Team at Global Health Council Conference

The Global Health Council conferencein WashingtonDC, June 14-18, was attended by JSI andPAIMAN consortium partner’s team led by Chief of Party, Dr. Nabeela Ali.

A documentary – Call to Life an Ulama (Religious personals/leaders) intervention was presented by Mr. Atif Ikram Butt from the Johns Hopkins University/CCP-PAIMAN team. It was well received by conference participants. An auxiliarysession moderated by Dr. Nabeela highlighted PAIMAN interventions for improving knowledge and behavior participants showed their interest through their questions on the various topics presented.

Meetings and Events During the GHC Conference Week

June 11,on Capital Hill, Dr. Nabeelaattended a meeting with a USAID State Department representative, discussions centered on the security situation and project implementation status.

June 18, an International Partner’s meetingof US-based PAIMAN partners was held at the JSI Arlington office to discuss the close out plan, dissemination meetings, budget utilization and subagreementmodifications. The meeting was chaired by JSI-PAIMAN Senior Advisor,Dr. Theo Lippeveld, and attended by PAIMAN Pakistan team members and US-based representatives from JHU/CCP, Save the Children and Population Council.

Community Midwives of Dadu and Sukkur Receive Equipment

On June 14, a CMW homes equipment handing over ceremony was held for 32 CMWs from district Dadu. District CoordinatingOfficer-DCO, Dadu was chief guest. Also attending were the new Executive District Officer(EDO) Health Dadu, representative of the DG’s office, National MNCH provincial and district office, DHQ hospital, M.S of THQ hospital K.N.Shah, district support person of PPHI, health officials and notables of Dadu.

On June 18 in Sukkur equipment was handed over to 22 CMWs. The ceremony was attended by district health authorities, notables and was widely covered by electronic and print media. Equipment provided by PAIMAN is to support CMWs in establishingtheir CMW homes and hence improvingtheir community’s access to skilled maternal newborn and child health care practices.

Improved Access and Services in Under Served Areas

June 19, the first caesarean section was conducted at Tehsil Head Quarter/Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital, Lasbela. The baby boy and mother are safe and healthy. The operation was conudted by the gyneacologist assisted by the anesthetists trained by PAIMAN,in the operation theater equipped and renovated by PAIMAN.
