NOTICE OF FRANKLIN COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS

The Franklin County Democratic Committee hereby announces that it will hold an assembled caucus on April 14, 2018 at the Franklin County Public Library, 355 Franklin Street., Rocky Mount, VA for the purpose of electing 17 delegates and 5 alternates to the 5th Congressional District Democratic Convention. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for check-in and close promptly at 9:30 a.m. The Convention to nominate a candidate to seek to represent the 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives will be held on May 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the The Firemen’s Sports Arena, 1328 Zion Hill Road, Farmville VA 23901.

Any person wishing to seek election as a delegate or alternate must file with Denise Hurst, Chair of the Franklin County Democratic Committee, 527 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 no later than 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018. A voluntary administrative fee of $5 for the local and a $5 fee for the 5th Congressional District Convention for a total of $10 will be charged at the time of filing. A delegate candidate shall indicate a candidate preference on his or her pre-filing form, a preference for “No Candidate” or prefile as an “Uncommitted “delegate. Delegates will be chosen on a pro rata basis, based on the congressional candidate preferences of the participants in the meeting. A minimum of 15% of the attendees present shall be necessary to form a viable preference group. Each preference group will elect delegates and alternates to fill the delegate and alternate "slots" they have been allocated. Only those people who have pre-filed may be nominated or elected. The selection of alternates will be those persons with the next highest number of votes after the persons with the highest number of votes have been elected delegates.

Doors to the caucus open at 8:30 a.m. for check-in. Caucus Participation Forms must be filled out by any person attending the caucus prior to participating in the caucus. At 9:30 a.m. the doors to the caucus will close and no person may complete a form and participate in the caucus after that time with the exception of those persons in line at 9:30 a.m. All participants are required to sign a Caucus Declaration Form certifying that the participant is a Democrat, a registered voter in Franklin County, believes in the principles of the Democratic Party, and does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to the Democratic nominee in the next ensuing election.
