The Spa Director reports directly to the Operations Director or Divisional Vice President.

Job Summary:

The Spa Directorwill be responsible for the daily operations of the facility including: establishing and meeting the budget and financial goals or the organization; implementing marketing and sales strategic plans; training and scheduling staff; facility management and maintenance; supervising the staff in each area of the facility, ensuring the highest levels of guest satisfaction are attained; using the ability to lead and motivate staff to achieve goals and exceed guest expectations.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ensures the “WTS International Experience” for guests by maintaining the standards set in WTS International Basics to Excellence (BTE), WTS International Mission Statement/Values; Standards and Expectations, and WTS International Brand Standards.
  • Adheres to policies of WTS International.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and builds cohesive team
  • Supervises effective daily operations including opening and closing procedures, facility inspections, cash handling procedures, and general facility maintenance.
  • Developsa comprehensive standard facility operations manual, including written policies and procedures for all fitness facility services, administration, and maintenance using the WTS International operations template.
  • Develops, through use of a template, weekly and monthly management reports outlining key facility statistics and a summary of daily operations. Also reports any current or future concerns to the Operations Director or Divisional Vice President.
  • Develops a monthly client reports that addresses key initiatives and statistics for the client.
  • Submits all paperwork and financial reporting, including HR and payroll, in accordance with WTS International policy.
  • Develops and maintains accurate facility maintenance procedures and checklists through routine preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility through efficient scheduling of department personnel and, when necessary, makes changes to stay within budgetary guidelines. Develops a schedule of seasonal utilization patterns to be used in budgeting process and effective payroll management.
  • Ensures that the financial goals are attained by developing and implementing a retail sales plan. Established service and retail goals for staff and provide guidance on how to achieve them.
  • Provides necessary financial information to corporate and client’s accounting department for accurate reporting of daily sales and financial performance.
  • Ensure the successful integration of the spa and where applicable, the fitness facility, into the overall operation of the hotel or client facility.
  • Develops and implements proper inventory and purchasing procedures. Maintains a monthly inventory of supplies, equipment, and or products. Specifies and controls efficient usage of professional products for all services by completing a service cost analysis and implementing an inventory control system including par stock levels for spa equipment and supplies.
  • Writes articles or press releases for the facility, when applicable.
  • Creates a team of service providers to meet all aspects of professionalism and service demands. Assesses all facility employees’ progress continually; coaches employees with positive reinforcement, and disciplines, when necessary, fairly and consistently; conducts annual performance evaluations, and, when necessary, is responsible forterminating employment.
  • Maintains a fully staffed facility by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training all staff.
  • Ensures that all staff members are implementing BTE.
  • Ensures the staff is fully knowledgeable on the use and benefits of services, products, programs, and activities by conducting regularly scheduled staff meetings and training workshops.
  • Helps ensure appropriate facility supervisory coverage through use of a Manager on Duty (MOD) system and participates in the MOD schedule.
  • Provides excellent customer service and monitors guest feedback through the use of comment cards and other customer care techniques. Supervises and follows up on guest requests and comments.
  • Ensures facility is only accessed by actual members and/or guests, and that it is safe and secure at all times.
  • Creates andimplements an effective marketing and public relations strategy in a timely manner. Implements marketing strategies to contact group and promote special events, such as bridal parties.
  • Designs, with the use of templates, forms, flyers, and promotional materials to be utilized in daily facility operations.
  • Ensures all employees are current in any required licensure and certifications. Complies with all state licensing and health requirements.
  • Ensures all guest fees and class fees are correctly charged. Provides a reservation process through the proper use of a spa software system.
  • Keeps up-to-date on spa trends.
  • Schedules and conducts staff meetings and professional training.
  • Prepares and incident reports, per company policy, and forward the report to Corporate Human Resources and their supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of twoyears supervisory experience in a spa environment.
  • Knowledge of professional spa services and treatments.
  • Knowledge of retail operations and inventory systems.
  • Must have excellent oral communication skills to work positively with different populations, in groups and individually.
  • Must be well-organized, efficient, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously.
  • Effective leadership skills and strong work ethic.
  • Must be in a physical condition to project the health and wellness ideals of the spa environment.
  • Must be able to think independently and develop programs for specific exercise and member/guests needs.
  • Must be able to keep confidences and practice discernment
  • Must be able to build rapport with members or guests.

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred in the area of Hospitality, Exercise Science, Health Education, Business or related field.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Spa Director supervises all facility staff.

Physical Requirements/Miscellaneous Requirements:

  • Availability When Facility Is Open: This could include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • LightWork: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to negligible force constantly to move objects.
  • This position required the ability to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift.
  • This position will require the following physical requirements: repetitive motions, seeing, hearing andtalking.
  • The employee will be required to operate the following tools: computer, calculator, fax machine, and copier
  • This position may require exposure to noise, chemical and mechanical hazards.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
