PACIFICA HIGH SCHOOL 2017-2018

CURRICULUM LETTER

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

The goal of this special education class is to provide students with an opportunity to learn in a student centered environment. Students will be enrolled in the academic area of ELA: Edge program, Algebra 1B and World History and will follow the regular education curriculum. The Algebra 1B class is developed to move at a pace where the second half of the regular Algebra curriculum will be covered.

MATERIALS Students are expected to have the following materials in class everyday;

  • A folder or binder containing lined notebook paper
  • A spiral notebook containing a 150 or more pages in college rule (preferably 8.5x11)
  • Two pencils with erasersfor Algebra 1B
  • Pens (blue or black ink) for ELA and World History
  • PacificaHigh School Calendar Agenda
  • Textbook

HOMEWORK Most work will be completed in class. However, work not completed in class will be expected to be completed at home and turned in at the beginning of the period of the following school day or the day it is due. Late homework will be accepted, but each day it is late 10% of the points will be deducted, unless arrangements have been made between student and teacher prior to the assigned date. Students that are absent are required to complete all missed work, and will have as many days they are absent to complete the assignment.

GRADING SCALE Due to the nature of special education and each student’s IEP goals/objectives, students will receive grades based on two criteria: Effort and Achievement. Effort will include attendance, punctuality to class, materials, behavior, participation, and willingness to learn. Achievement will include quality of work at each student’s ability level. The grading scale is as follows:

90-100% A

80-89% B

70-79% C

60-69% D

0-59% F

Assessments, in the form of tests, essay questions, and group assignments, will be given to check on the progress of the students.

CLASSROOM RULES No Behavior will be tolerated that keeps me from teaching and/or students from learning.

  • Students will follow directions and stay on task
  • No eating or drinking in class (water with lids will be allowed)
  • Students are expected to behave like young adults and not disrupt anyone around them
  • Students will be seated quietly when the bell rings and will remain seated unless given permission to do otherwise
  • Students will come to class with all materials and ready to learn
  • Absolutely no CELL PHONES permitted in class.

Please review this plan with your son/daughter. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (714) 663-6515 or email at
