P7 Homework – Term 1, Week 4.
**To be handed back in, completed, on Friday 15th September**
*Please make sure that your homework has the date and title at the top for each week; and your spelling activities that you pick have a subheading for neat layout.*
Maths
As you know, last week and this week we’ve been learning about money in class – working out totals and change using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; and learning about and working within budgets. Each of you have your activity sheet to completethis week in your jotter, but I would also like you to practise reading money amounts from a calculator with your family.
Ask for some shopping receipts from your parents/family members, or use the calculator on your mobile as you go around the shop and type in the prices of the items you see. Practise reading the amounts on the calculator after these types of calculationsbelow.
*Remember that 4.2 (as the calculator will not show unnecessary 0’s, and doesn’t know you’re working out money) would mean £4.20; and 4.02 would mean £4.02.
You can:
- Add several items together to find the total;
- Subtract to find the difference in price between 2 items, or to work out your change based on the amount you are paying;
- Multiply to find out the price of several packets etc;
- Divide to find the price of 1 biscuit/pack of crisps within the pack.
Reading
Well done in finding so many palindromes last week P7 – there were quite a few I read that I hadn’t even thought of!
This week I would like you to write a summary of chapter 4 from our novel “Holes”. We will have read this in class on Monday or Tuesday. It begins with Stanley arriving at Camp Green Lake, and ends with a conversation between Stanley and Mr Sir about running away from camp. Remember that a summary is when you round up the main points/events from the chapter in a paragraph – you don’t need every detail that would be a recount of the chapter and that isn’t what we’re doing.
When you’re writing your summary, I want you to apply what we were focusing on in grammar last week – accurate punctuation in sentences, ensuring that your sentences make sense – otherwise they are phrases, not sentences! Don’t hand in work with a “that’ll do” attitude. Think about what we’ve been learning as part of a growth mind-set, and go back and think “Let’s check and see if I can improve anywhere. And let’s make sure I have accurately done what I’ve been asked to do”!

Topic
On the next sheet is a map if the USA, with the 50 states on it. I would like you to put the 50 states in alphabetical order in your jotter. Remember that all states are proper nouns so need a capital letter! And please remember a heading for neat jotter layout.
*If there is anything you need help with, more clarification on or anything else, please come and ask me before Friday so we can do something about it.*
