The faculty, staff and administration at Fitchburg State University would like to congratulate you on your upcoming graduation.

The Graduate Commencement Ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Athletics and Recreation Center located at 130 North Street.

Slide 4

Regalia can be purchased through the bookstore which is located on the lower level of Hammond Hall.

Slide 5

General parking will be in all lots adjacent to the Athletics and Recreation Center as well as in the MART Intermodal Garage on Main Street excluding only the Congress Street lot which is reserved. For guest convenience, shuttle buses will run from 5 pm to 9 pm.

The seating area for guests will open at 4:30pm. Seating for guests is first come, first served and no tickets or invitations are required.

Please relay to your guests that during the ceremony, access to the stage area for picture taking or videotaping by guests will be prohibited. Your picture will be taken by a professional photographer as you receive your diploma cover and congratulations from President Lapidus. This picture will be mailed to your home courtesy of the Alumni Association.

Graduates and any guests who have a disability may request accommodations through the Disability Services Office.

We ask that all graduates report to the Athletics and Recreation Center by 5:45pm.

On arrival, graduate students should report to the second floor lobby. There you will check-in and receive your name card.

Please make sure to hold on to your name card as it will be read while you cross the stage. If you have a name that is difficult to pronounce, please provide the phonetic spelling.

Volunteers, identified by their nametags with ribbons, will assist you in lining up numerically in the hallways with your Program Chair leading.

Remember your tassel should be on the right.

You will process into the ceremony down the left aisle.

Slide 15

During the conferring of degrees, volunteers will guide you from your seats to behind the curtain.

Your Program Chair will then lead you to the stage.

You will hand your name card to the volunteer and proceed forward to get hooded by the deans.

After being hooded, walk across the stage to receive your diploma case and get your picture taken with President Lapidus. Then proceed to shake hands with your Chair.

Upon exiting the stage volunteers will assist you in returning to your seat.

At the completion of the ceremony volunteers will assist you in recessing after the platform party, alumni and faculty.

President Lapidus will host a reception immediately following the ceremony for graduates, guests and faculty.

Please note that diplomas will be mailed to you the first week of June.
