March 16, 2018 Systemic Professional Development Course Guide

Overview and Expectations

March 16 will be a half-day of instruction for students, with afternoon professional learning for teachers. Sessions are organized in alphabetical order by area. The table below includes details around course content, target audience, date, time, location, and registration mechanism. In addition, all sessions have a contact person identified to support scheduling and registration questions. Registration will take place in the Professional Growth System (PGS). The PGS registration window will be open from February 23through Close of Business on March 11.Walk-in participants will be welcomed where space is available, but all staff are encouraged to make their selections and register for sessions accordingly to ensure each content areahas the space necessary to meet the learning needs of teachers and staff.

Participation Notes

March marks the third installment of half-day professional development sessions targeted to support literacy in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9, as part of the district’s Blueprint for Success.All teachers of literacy in these grade levels should register for the appropriate Blueprint aligned session.Literacy Blueprint sessions are organized by CLN. Locations, organized by school, will be provided in the coming weeks.

Session Updates:

City Schools Office of Teacher Support and Development, in partnership with Academic Offices, will continually update the Professional Growth Site to ensure all relevant course details are up to date and reflect accurate information.

Related Services / HELPs Training / Reading interventions often target phonics, phonemic awareness, and comprehension. Reading fluency is commonly neglected.
