Overload Job Request Form for Adjunct Faculty- Instructional

(Credit and Non-Credit)

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR ADJUNCT OVERLOAD APPOINTMENTS: This form is only to be used for an employee who holds a primary appointment as adjunct faculty where he/she has either been recruited for the assignment or asked to take on an additional instructional duties related to the original adjunct appointment. Any non-instructional assignment must first be approved by Human Resources. In addition, adjunct faculty are not permitted to work more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week on average and no more than 1480 hours during the 12-month period of May 1st to April 30th, including classroom or other instructional time plus additional hours needed to perform the duties of this position.

Also, the maximum number of credit hours that an adjunct may teach during the course of twelve (12) months (from May 1st to the following April 30th) is limited to no more than nine (9) credit hours in the Spring semester, nine (9) credit hours in the Fall semester, and six (6) credit hours in the Summer for a total of twenty-four (24) credit hours. If at any time during this 12-month period it is determined that the projected hours might exceed this hourly limit, the adjunct’s hours must be reduced and/or the adjunct position may be subject to earlier termination. The adjunct employee must certify below that he/she has read and understands these work restrictions.

Hiring department head completes the form and obtains required signatures. If adjunct faculty member is appointed in a department/unit outside the faculty member’s primary department/unit, primary supervisor must also approve this overload and sign below.
