JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERALL JOB FUNCTION

Key Task / Performance Standards
1. / To provide adequate support services to tenants in schemes. / To be responsible for cleaning, dusting and polishing as appropriate, the fixtures and fittings as directed by the Scheme Co-ordinator and in accordance with procedure to include:

I.Corridors, stairways, landing areas, common room, laundry, hobbies room, guestroom, lift, office, bin stores.

  1. Internal glass and windows
  2. Any waste bins which should be emptied regularly
  3. Window sills, skirting boards, handrails, doors, door windows and lift
  4. Laundry related to the guest room
  5. In the absence of the Scheme Co-ordinator, carry out weekly fire alarm test and record details in logbook. To report any problems with fire alarm system direct to repair desk. (This only applies where the Domestic Assistant is trained, and may be specific to the scheme)
  6. To put out all bins ready for collection on a weekly basis.

2. /

To ensure that the Housing Management delivery to our customer is in accordance with best value.

/ To ensure that all equipment is maintained and in clean order.
To support and assist the Scheme Co-ordinator to provide a weekly lunch club. This may include:
  • Setting up room
  • Laying tables
  • Clearing dishes/washing up etc
  • Preparation of food (where training has been delivered)
To cover duties of other Domestic Assistants within the scheme in their absence or any of the Association’s other schemes as required by the Scheme Co-ordinator, Housing Officer, Housing Manager or Director of Housing.
To attend and contribute to staff meetings as required.

To attend training courses at Head Office or at other locations as required.
To provide the highest quality service, incorporating best standard and practice and to work to continually improve standards, promoting the Association to its customers and contacts.
3. /

To provide an efficient and effective response maintenance service.

/ To take note and to report maintenance requirements to Scheme Co-ordinator, Housing Officer or Maintenance Officer.
To report any emergencies to Scheme Co-ordinator or Housing Officer.
4. /

To adhere to the policies and procedures of the Association with attention to the Section 75 Equality Scheme duties.

Key Tasks / Ensure adherence to the Association’s Financial Regulations and procedures.
Adhere to the Association’s Fair Employment and Equal Opportunities policy, and commit to the principles and aims of the Equality Scheme S75 duties with regard to religious faith, political option, racial groups, men and women generally, marital status, age, persons with a disability, persons with dependants and sexual orientation.
To adhere to the Association’s IT System Network, Email and Internet Usage Policy.
To promote/be aware of energy efficiency within scheme.
Follow the Association’s quality systems following procedures laid down in manuals and other guidance as appropriate.
Performance Standards
Ensure adherence to the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
Follow the Association’s Code of Conduct in the performance of all duties.
Ensure confidentiality of information received.
Ensure adherence to the Association’s Health and Safety policy and procedures to assist in ensuring a safe working environment is maintained.

To take on additional specific areas of work as required by the Director of Housing or by a Senior Manager.

/ To ensure work is carried out in accordance with instructions and on time.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE/

KNOWLEDGE

/ At least 6 months previous experience working as a Cleaner/Domestic Assistant in a paid or voluntary working environment. / Previous experience of working with the general public/older people
Knowledge of COSHH

SKILLS/

ABILITIES

/ Good verbal communication skills and an appreciation of the need to act in a friendly and sympathetic manner in appropriate situations.
Ability to act tactfully and diplomatically.
A commitment to equal opportunities.
A commitment to social housing and an understanding of the needs of the elderly.
Ability to work with limited supervision and be able to undertake a range of routine tasks.
An ability to recognise emergencies and act calmly in an appropriate fashion.
