Over the years, children have lost sight of their physical health. Today, the increased obesity rate has made the need for daily exercise a necessity. Therefore, physical education classes should be required in middle school.

Some may argue that PE should not be required in middle school. They feel that students are easily injured. Actually when students follow directions accidents should not occur. Proper teacher supervision, training, and experience create a safer learning environment. Thanks to a committed staff, Physical Education should be required for the following reasons.

First, students get to take a break from the classroom. For example, during PE students can socialize with friends and get fresh air instead of being in a classroom unable to move freely. This class gives little or no homework, tests, or written work. Students are motivated to stay in school and do their best work possible. Overall, PE releases students from the tensions and stressful work to return to the classroom ready to learn.

In addition, Physical Education teaches important life skills. In PE students learn many traits like sportsmanship, respect, and cooperation. It even helps students learn integrity, citizenship, and tolerance. PE helps students improve their confidence by getting them out of their comfort zone. These skills will make the student a better person.

Most importantly, PE keeps students healthy. For instance, this class promotes daily exercise for those who do not have time outside of school. Students learn the importance to eat properly and to work out regularly. By being fit, our longevity of life increases. Clearly, PE is essential and should be mandatory to motivate sluggish students to improve their health.

I want to persuade my reader that PE should be a mandatory class in middle school. When students exercise daily they get a break from academics, learn important life skills, and improve their health. Without a doubt, physical education is a valuable time for every middle school student.
